Now was that really necessary??
This is from wikipedia. I think it explains why it was said.
Baylor University is a private, Baptist-affiliated research university located in Waco, Texas. It is the largest Baptist university in the world by enrollment. Founded in 1845, Baylor is the oldest university in Texas operating under its original name. Baylor is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and is a member of the Association of Southern Baptist Colleges and Schools.

Kevin - sorry if our reactions offended you. I can see now you didn't mean anything by that but it did seem to me like you were putting this college into a specific category. When IMHO I think it's admirable when young people can afford college - any college and make that committment to attend. That's all.

Are you a competitive swimmer, dude?
I don't take any offense at all, just for anyone who may be wondering. Baylor IS Southern Baptist, after all.
And you know... I don't necessarily agree with everything Baylor has done throughout the years. Honestly, who cares if there was no on-campus dancing until 1996? That's in the past. No college is 100% "right" in everything they do. But Baylor has their heart is in the right place.
And thank you to Pburgh.
And by the way... I don't even consider myself a Baptist. So there you go!

Glad there's no offense, bro.

Was just curious myself as to what Sandcrab's intention was so to say by his post.

Wow. I was as amused as Swimdude when I saw the beer and bong suggestions given his future alma mater. Just noting for those unfamiliar that Baylor is very conservative, and proud of it, BTW.
No offense intended, Swimdude. Bear down, you Bears! (Getting out of range before the peak of the season, too. Nice)

Be yourself... don't let ANYONE pressure you into doing something 'they' like.
Really... its NOT what you know... but WHO you know.... Make friends with the upperclassmen.... they usually know the best professors and 'might' share notes with you. In some instances... you don't need to buy the books... Yes, they say required, however, some professors DON'T use them! Go to class first... then buy your books!

Shannon - funny you should mention textbooks. Nina's first semester, she bought all new or tried to buy used but all were new. That bill was close to $500 ($466 I want to say). Her next semester textbook bill? Approx. $250. I just thought most of them were used. Turns out she reported to a few classes, one Prof announced he didn't even use the books recommended for his class but she had purchased that one already. Another said the same thing and luckily she couldn't find that book. She skipped that purchase, completely. So now she's waiting too! Smart advice but it is hard for an incoming Freshman. They have so much to worry about, that just knowing she had her books last August was a relief. Now that she's older and realizes not all Professors use textbooks, it makes sense to wait. Good advice!

At UWGB we had to buy books... because of a science dual major, I had several semesters that we well in advance of $400 worth of books... (way too many hard covers!) Also... buy your books from upperclassmen.... at the bookstore you'll be lucky if you get $30 back on a book that you bought for $150. Don't expect to get over $50 when you return books (at the bookstore)... you can get your books from upperclassmen for a heck of a lot cheaper than the bookstore. Some books you can keep.... I have a lot of my science books... especially the MET, Math, Environmental Books.... You bought them.. .they are yours! FYI... don't touch the CD's in the books... dead serious... the bookstore will not give you money back without the CD! Majority of the time, you won't need your book... don't bring it to class. You usually can get by with only bringing your notebook.... the professors move way to fast for you to even consider highlighting the things you covered. Things you cover in a year in high school will be covered in a semester (with more indepth coverage)
Remember if 'your' academic advisors told you to take a class just because, you can drop the class and find another.... you aren't forced to take classes just because academic advising said so. Make out a 'major' plan so you have an idea on what classes to take... remember span out your Gen Eds and your major classes... don't try to compact your major classes into the last 2 years... it will only make you pull your hair out.

Good Luck Swimdude!
As for what to take...well my parents' advice...if only had I listen to them. Of course back then I thought I knew everything and my parents were ancient and living back in the 60s/70s. What I didn't realize is that they knew what they were talking about and I should had listen to them in the beginning.
