Dog the Bounty Hunter arrested by Feds

#1 Postby alicia-w » Thu Sep 14, 2006 4:57 pm

Some pretty serious charges, but this guy gives me the creeps...

HONOLULU - TV reality star Duane "Dog" Chapman was arrested early this morning in Hawaii, his publicist, Mona Wood, confirmed. Wood said she could provide no details.

MSNBC reports said U.S. Marshals arrested Chapman and two family members — Leland and Tim Chapman — on kidnapping charges.

The news channel said Mexico issued a warrant for Chapman's arrest for his alleged kidnapping of Max Factor heir Andrew Luster three years ago.

Chapman's capture of Luster — a serial rapist — in Mexico catapulted the bounty hunter to fame and led to the reality series on the A&E channel.

Wood says this is obviously a very upsetting time for the Chapman family. She says Chapman is a true modern-day hero.

"He arrests the bad guys — and he is definitely not one of them," she said, adding he would be vindicated.

I do not understand why US authorities would even consider arresting him on a Mexican warrant considering he capured a vicious criminal who was wanted in the US. Mexican authorities are often less than enthusiastic about handing over criminals wanted in the US yet it appears we are going to hand over Chapman and his family members on a silver platter. :grrr:

Man this sux. This guy does not creep me out at all, he is a heck of a guy.

I agree with that totally, at least from all the episodes I have seen. Unreal we are just handing him and his sons over so easily. Hopefully he does get vindicated, and can get back to doing his job.

Did I read that right. He was arrested in for kidnapping someone who was a serial rapist and bringing them to justice. Now something is wrong with that scenario.

It's a tough situation. Seems to me their best hope is to fight extradition on the grounds that they can't get a fair trial in Mexico. (The basis for that being that obviously Luster was there under the protection of corrupt government officials).

Technically, I don't think there can be any argument they broke Mexican law by snatching the guy. So their best hope seems to be a political one - shifting the focus to the fact that this wanted serial rapist was openly sheltered there, presumably with the knowledge of Mexican government officials. If the whole business can be made sufficiently embarrassing, perhaps the Mexicans will just let it be.
