Ok, next question and this may be a stupid one but here goes...........

Do you need DVD-R discs to use a DVR or does it record it to a chip inside the unit?

No, you don't. Everything is saved on the hard drive inside. I got my DVR when I got satellite last year, after waiting on cable to return after Rita for what seemed like an eternity. I was dying to watch some TV and I LOVE my DVR! I have the dual DVR and I can store 100 hours of programming at one time.

I'm not familiar enough with TIVO to give a comparison.

Yes Bre.. You would just need to et a DVD recorder.. Would just have to go to best buy or something like that and tell them what you intend to do and they will tell you what need to do.. Dont call your cabel company and ask

Then hook it into the set up I already have which includes the cable box, dvd player and surround sound system? Yikes!!! I am challenged when it come to that much electronics beng hooked up.

That isnt what I was saying David.. If you have cable I would DEFINATLY get the one through your cable company.. Then you have just one box (cable box and DVR box are one) and only one remote etc.. Definatley the way to go for sure
