Moving need some info from you guys!

#1 Postby SouthFloridawx » Mon Aug 06, 2007 2:52 pm

Ok here goes...

My girlfriend (Amanda) and I, were looking to move down to the Broward/Dade County area in the near future. Well we started posting resumes and looking for job offers down there, and it turns out that a Law Firm calls me, that is interested in my Real Estate background, for research for them. We also are interested in going to school down, Amanda specifically @ UM or FIU.

The problem is, that we didn't expect to get a job offer so quickly. I got the offer and they want me to start as soon as possible. We don't have much to afford for move-in because of the short notice.

We would be will to do a small 1 bedroom or a large studio, in the North Miami Area, will go up to 15 miles surrounding. Does anyone know of anyone that can refer me to or have a place to rent down there. I am looking to stay under 1000 per month, unless utilities are included. I am more than happy to settle for something in the short term, until we can get finances under control. Our credit is poor, but no judgments, evictions, foreclosures, repo's or anything like that.

Anyway, not sure if anyone knows, but thought I would give you guys a shout and see.

Thanks in advance if you know something. We are looking to move by or around the 1st of September.

ask your potential employer if they offer a relocation service or assistance with moving expenses...

At this time, you should be able to get a decent one bedroom apartment for 1K a month. Especially if you both have jobs. The rental market down here is a bloodbath and is only getting worse. Can you come up with some cash when you move in. If you show up with 3 months of prepaid rent, you make the rules. Just get EVERYTHING in WRITING!!!! Lots of crooks around here. But, everything is negotiable right now. You might be able to get a house from somebody desperate if you will take care of the lawn.

UM is a great school, but without some serious financial assitance, it isn't worth the money IMHO.

We have finally decided that we are just going to rent a Efficiency, something cheaper, to allow us to save up some money for a month or two, in order to put money down on something we want.

If you guys know of any Efficiencies in the Ft. Lauderdale/Miami area let me know...

Thanks...

Ok... just to give you a little update, we are coming down this weekend. Amanda has some job interviews lined up tomorrow at some frame shops and galleries.

We found a 200.00 per week studio/apt, in Hollywood... only 200.00 deposit. Wohoo...

So we'll be moving on the 30th... We're going to save for a couple of months and find a cool little place down there.

Thanks for the advice you guys.
