I'm not really surprised, but do we really need to know this? It is interesting, and maybe she wants to write some more adult books about the other characters in the Potter-Universe. But, I am glad I don't have to explain that to my kids tonight. I laughed when I heard this on the news. It just seems so .... pointless. There are some things I like to figure out on my own when it comes to books.

A lot of HP fans already suspected it so it's not a big deal to us.

But yeah, I'm glad for more character background and it's part of who he is so I don't see why she wouldn't tell us.


The majority of the kids who grew up with Harry Potter, like myself, are already teenagers or older so it isn't anything they need to be sheltered from, IMO.

I imagine the only reason she announced it was because of all the fans suspecting it (go to any fanfiction site and I guarantee you will see at least 10,000 fanfics about it ).

I read this story today. Doesn't surprise me but the Christian groups that were and are still against HP will have opinions about this bit of news. Sigh...I work with one and she just automatically rejects HP w/o even reading one chapter. I just told her she missed the entire point of the books/series/movies. She said she can't past the use of sorcery (quoting the Bible). I just sighed and said well the true message isn't just sorcery, it's about doing the right thing, being true to your friends and yourself - loyalty, love, friendship, etc. She just starts in on her verses and I just have to stop talking! Asking - why did the author have to resort to witchcraft and sorcery to tell the story? That's when I had to walk away. LOL

We love the entire HP series, in this household. Eagerly awaiting the 6th movie and then of course, the final one. That will be a sad day though...

Wasn't J.K. Rowling asked directly, by a fan, about Dumbledore's lovelife? In such a case, I don't see a problem with the author answering the fan's question honestly.

After reading briefly from the final book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," she took questions from audience members.

She was asked by one young fan whether Dumbledore finds "true love."

"Dumbledore is gay," the author responded to gasps and applause.

She then explained that Dumbledore was smitten with rival Gellert Grindelwald, whom he defeated long ago in a battle between good and bad wizards. "Falling in love can blind us to an extent," Rowling said of Dumbledore's feelings, adding that Dumbledore was "horribly, terribly let down."

No, we don't, and it does seem pointless now, other than to draw attention. I'm sure there's a lot of parents who would have liked to know this beforehand though, and then be able to decide if they want their child to read it. But I guess it doesn't really matter... it's not like it changes the story any, right? Harry Potter has never interested me, so I haven't read it... just going by what I've heard on the "outing."

The books are a lot of fun. Great for the beach. I read all kids of books and they aren't a grand masterpeice, but they are great books for kids (and adults) to read.

I resisted the Harry Potter craze, and watched from afar as my daughters got into the series - books and movies. This past summer my 17 yo daughter got me hooked on HP. She has been bugging me for years to read the books. Since I turned her into a Star Wars fan I thought it only fair to at least give these books a try........well.....

I LOVE THEM!

I read all 7 over the summer and cried....yes I did. Watched all 5 movies too. The 5th - twice. Once in an iMax setting.

Why I resisted the urge to read these books, I'll never know. Stubborness I guess. I thought they were children's lit!

Ha - joke's on me......oh they are SO much more! They are about doing the right thing, always - I love that about Harry.

That's my 2 cents worth....the 7th book gave me chills and I re-read many sections, at least 3 times each. Can't wait for the 6th and 7th movies now.

And as for Dumbledore being gay - it doesn't matter one bit to us!
