Part of My Routine

#1 Postby azskyman » Wed Jul 09, 2003 11:36 pm

We are all creatures of habit...and as such we get up at about the same time of day, go through the same motions to get the day started, and actually might make a visit to Storm2k part of the routine.

Is there any aspect of your life that is so routine that any deviation kind of throws off the whole day?

I thought about this today as I was traveling home from work. It is an 18 mile trip on the Loop 101 in north Phoenix. The first 4 miles are spent in the right (slower) lane. But after I hit a certain point, I move to the middle lane until about 2 miles to the turnoff. Today I was forced by traffic to spend several miles in the passing lane on the far left...and it was a noticeable stress while driving.

Am I getting old and just more set in my ways, or are there things in your day (like the time you must take your lunch break, the stall you park in, the food you eat, how you pack your lunch, when you check the mail, etc) that can add a tiny bit of stress if it doesn't happen.

And, by the way, my parking place at the plant if you ever visit is the first one in the row...farthest to the west. Better to park in the street than to mess with that when I'm around!!!!

My "biggie" is trudging the 26 steps to retrieve the mail every afternoon...I like to get "first crack" at it, especially when my oil royalty checks are due.

Wake up, change, get on computer, restart computer after 5 hours because it cannot hold a connection woth a crap after that, watch 5 and 6 o clock newscasts, eat, watch 10:00 news, watch Jay Leno, listen to radio until Conan, watch his skits, listen to radio again, reboot, sleep, repeat.

Boy let me tell ya, I have a routine that if I sway just a tad, it really screws up my day! I "LOVE" getting up 1 hour before the rest of the household gets up, it's my quite time, turn on the coffee, turn on the news at 0430, the coffee is ready at 0440, walk out on the porch, have a smoke, come in, check the emails, check the weather, then hit storm2K for 30 minutes, sit and read the paper for another 30 minutes.... then I'm ready for the day!

I have always been a early riser, there's something about the mornings I love! When I was a meat mgr, I pretty much had the same routine, I CANNOT get up, get dressed and RUSH out the door, it TOTALLY ruins my day!

Dennis...I'm with you. My hour of quiet time all 7 days of the week. The only hour I get each day. It's worth getting up before sunrise because I OWN that hour!

When I get up, my routine is to always check my overnight email and latest weather (radar, local forecast, FFC and BMX AFD's, SPC SWODY1 & 2, NHC TWO, etc)...if something happens and I can't do that before leaving the house, it usually ruins my entire day :(

My routine is basically the same every day, nothing usually to do.

I don't eat breakfast every morning, it is something that I can't seem to do (if I am up early enough for what would be breakfast). I take a shower almost every single day in the late morning or early afternoon.

I am online frequently and listen/watch news (programs) on television. I come here to Storm2K the most often when I am online. There usually is nothing else for me to do, no where to go.
