ATM Scam

#1 Postby dizzyfish » Sun Sep 21, 2008 5:55 pm

I'm not sure if this is happening everywhere or just in this area.

We have been hearing on the news lately about "devices" on the outside of ATM machines that can either read your card or take a pic of your card and your PIN number. Well - they weren't kidding.

Happened to hubby today. Fortunately he saw something funny and pulled it off the machine.
He called me and I told him to call the Sheriff. I called the bank in the meantime and they shut down the machine.

Perfect ending to a nice weekend.

Please be careful if you use ATM machines!

Scary! What kind of device made him suspicious?

It was a camera of some sort. It was made of CPVC plastic so it kinda blended in with the color of the machine. What he noticed that "didn't look right" was the hole that the camera looks through.
He said it was rough looking and that caught his attention. He pulled on the device and it came off. It was kept on by double sided sticky tape. It was at the upper right hand corner of the ATM so it could see the card and your pin number.

Whenever you see an external device like a camera glued to the ATM machine, don't use it.
