burn ban......

#1 Postby Dionne » Thu Jul 23, 2009 10:49 am

During the month of June we had very little rain in Copiah county. There were numerous fires spawned along the interstate from disposed ciggies. When I say numerous....I mean dozens. The local volunteer firefighters in this rural county stayed quite busy.

So what our board of supervisors decided to do was enact a county wide burn ban. Like that's going to stop interstate smokers from flipping ciggies? :double:

Anyway....the ban went into effect last week. On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, we received over 2 1/2 inches of rain. It was a long slow soaking "sweet" rain. :cheesy:

I miss my burn barrel.

When we moved the last time, we moved to a town that does not allow open fires. There's nothing like smoldering wet stuff that won't burn and clouds of black smoke from plastic that inadvertently makes its way into the trash. I guess we're better off now. The worst is when the neighbors burn THEIR wet stuff and plastic. :cheesy:

Hahahahaha.....that's funny. The black smoke from the burn barrel gave you away..... been there done that!

FYI....the spec's for outside burn barrels has changed. You cannot use a 55 gallon metal drum with holes punched in the bottom anymore. Now you have to go get one of these fancy round shaped outdoor fireplace set up on legs. The last time I burned off limbs......you couldn't even see the darned thing.....until it all burned down a couple hours. :cheesy:

We've been in a burn ban since June 17th. I've got a huge stack of boxes in the back corner of my lot just waiting for the day it's lifted. We've FINALLY gotten some rain recently, so hopefully, it won't be too long.

Our county is on a burn ban also and has been for about 2 months. Living in the city I am always on a burn ban. No open fires permitted. We recycle or plastic and paper products.

ZERO recycling in rural Mississippi. We don't even have a disposal site anywhere in the state for the newer light bulbs that contain mercury! But we do have thousands of illegal dump sites. It's a shame.
