Don't get out much latley do to health but the kids insisted I needed to watch this movie and watch it in 3D. Had to pass afew other theaters to find it in 3D and I was suprised to see a packed theater for somthing thats been out 5 weeks know....Watching the trailers before I went I really did know if I would be into it... But OMG...That was a really cool experience...I'm sure looking at its ticket sales I am probably one of the last people on EARTH to see it and this maybe old news but if you haven't, go see it in 3D before it comes off the big screen...I don't know if the none 3D will do it justice.

Re: Avatar
I saw it on Christmas Day, hadn't been to the theater in years(I won't even say the last movie I saw there before Avatar was), but I also watched in 3D and it was like a totally different experience, something I never expected. Just completely spectacular. I agree, the 3D really adds a lot to it and I'm not sure if you watched it normally if it would be nearly as enjoyable.
I also was skeptical if I would enjoy it or not(even the day I went I was still waffling on what to watch), but I'm very glad I chose Avatar.

Well, this 3D technology is so much better than the 3D technology from years ago that it is hard to make a comparison. I tried one 3D movie before the current technology came out and was annoyed with the gimick. Finally, 3D can be used as another tool for the director and not just some marketing ploy. If I wanted gimicks, I will go to Disney to see the 3D flick there.
I liked Avatar. It was a fun experience but I don't think I will rent it in 2D.

I agree, my daughters and I saw the Hanna Montana concert 3D and it was pretty amazing. It was like being at the concert. Doesn't compare to that cheesy JAWS3 in 3D back in the early 80s I saw. I would love to take them to see Avatar but we honestly can't afford it right now, but if and when it makes it to the $2 theater we'll be there.

I actually first heard about this movie days before it opened in theaters and was thinking I should go see this movie because I've heard from all kinds of people how great the graphics and 3D IMAX experience is. The problem is I can't get to one! I'm not watching this movie unless it's in a fully equipped IMAX 3D theater.
The only thing I have been wondering is how the box office sales are so incredibly high (might be top grossing movie of all time soon) when there are only around 250 IMAX theaters (and even less 3D ones*) worldwide? I can't imagine that many are seeing it in 2D since the movie would be significantly less amazing.
*Correct me if there is no such thing as a IMAX 3D equipped theater if all of them can produce the "3D" effect.

Yes you dont have to go to IMAX. You can get the a awsome 3d effect at the theaters but you have to find one that showing it in 3d...Those theaters have the glasses (not the cheap cardboard type but glasses) Cost $3.00 to $5.oo dollars more but worth it.

That's how I went. $9. The usual movie at the same time runs $6.50

I've heard a lot of great things about Avatar, but I really don't have any interest in going to see it. Maybe when it's on cable.

I didn't either have interest in seeing it, it was what the kids were saying about left me feeling like I might be missing something...Matter of fact when you get the chance to watch it on cable its just a (ok) story...But on the big screen with the new 3D technology's there using its really a unique experience...Its not one of those 3D Movies where there is just having things come out at the screen at you...The whole time you feel like you are in the screen or hundreds of feet in the air or even falling....

That's what I'm afraid of.

I saw a movie in the Tropicana Casino's IMAX theater in Atlantic City. It had to do with racing cars and we did have the 3D glasses. I wasn't the same the rest of the day!

My Avatar Experience
I went to experience Avatar: The IMAX 3D Experience today. Here is my review:
Today, January 30th, 2010 at 2:45p, I saw the greatest movie ever made, and the best movie I have ever seen! The movie: AVATAR: THE IMAX EXPERIENCE. This movie is a very fast paced action/adventure/Sci-Fi/suspense/animation/fantasy/love story should be given 50 out of 5 stars. This film really has no genre, and I think everyone will love it. The visual effects were incomparable to anything else. Usually when I go to a movie, I get a bag of popcorn and a soda, and watch the movie like anyone else. This time, I was completely immersed into the story line, ducking and diving with the avatars as they climbed the trees and flew the skies. The 3D blue and red turned to brown and green, and they made you feel like you were fighting with the colonel himself! The plot was very fast paced, and VERY good. I'll try not to ruin a whole lot of the surprises in this review, but there indeed was a great plot, or plots. There was a love story comparable to real live, a tragedy to relate to today's world, and a strong futuristic story to keep the trekkies and the grannies alike on the edge of their seats. I kept waiting for a slower moment to look at my phone to look at the time, but there was not a slower moment in the entire movie! My first thoughts at the end of the movie: "HOLY F***ING SH*T".
A couple notable experiences from my trip. About the only mishap that happened throughout the entire trip was at the beginning of the movie (during previews actually). All of the sudden my right lens went dark as if a bird took a doo on it. I tried to clean it off, put it back on, it was no better. Then I looked around, and I was not the only one to try this stupid mistake in pride. After a while the lens turned back "on", and the crowd began giggling. After that I got comfortable for the movie to come on. I've already mentioned my clock story, so I'll move on. About three quarters of the way through, I realized that I had not touched my popcorn or my soda in quite some time. Then I went to move my foot from the bar in front of me (I was sitting in the first row of stadium seating), and quickly realized I was immobile. The only thing comparable to it is sleep paralysis. I was sooooo into the movie, my brain forgot about my body, and I went on like that until the end of the movie! I have NEVER been this in to a movie before, and let me mention that I have a pitiful attention span. For anyone wondering about the numerous controversies associated with this experience, DON'T! You have to be looking for the controversies to find them. There are a few spots in the movie that deal with severe deforestation and animal abuse, but like any other movie, it is a part of the story line. It is real life, and it was dealt with a great bit, and resolved in the movie. At the end of the movie, my grandfather commented to me that he had to go to the bathroom for about 10 minutes in the middle of the movie, but decided he would rather urinate himself than miss the movie, this from an 80 year old man. Also, I must not that after the first 15 minutes of the movie, NOBODY got up and left the theater for food or otherwise. I was a FULLY packed theater all the way from the front to the back.
Back to the movie making and its extra special effects! Even thought this movie took more than a decade to finish, it was absolutely worth every second!! The newest technology takes you into the alien world of Pandora where everything goes right and wrong at the same time. A mixture of a love story, great animation, and military action creates one of the best movies of all time. Each character in this movie has two sides to it, the human and the avatar, and the balance between the two is astounding. It is not like the olden days where they had to have one scene with humans and another with humanoids. Here they had both fighting one another many miles in the sky in a fast paced action thriller. Between the numerous war scenes, I think I held my breath for 5 minutes a couple times. As the movie wears on the 3D effects become less apparent, and the screen seems to move closer and closer until the last eye-opening second. Every once in a while you will feel as if you could touch the fern, the dragons, or the pure jellyfish-type angels. When in a patch of Venus-Flytrap type plants, Jake (the main character in his avatar form) begins touching them. The flytraps close rapidly, and soon enough you want to touch them and try closing them yourself, until doom stirs, and you want to begin running for your life.
This movie truly lives up to its name "The IMAX Experience". This movie really is an experience, and experience of a life time might I add. Movies do not normally take you away the second they come on, nor do they take you to another planet. This one did both in a matter of moments! At times, you felt as if you were in the middle of a zoo, at other times, you felt like you were on a roller coaster. This experience will set the standard for movie making in the future, as did Titanic in its day. This is not a movie to see on DVD or 2D. The extra few dollars to see it in 3D and especially at the IMAX are worth it. I would not see it in any other way. I would recommend this movie to everyone over the age of 10 years old. There is swearing, gun fire, death, despair, non-sexual nudity, and smoking. Not revealing any more than I already have, the last moment of the movie leaves the question of a sequel wide open, but if there is one, I will be going to see it in IMAX!

I don't believe this. Maybe your just not explaining this correctly...you say when you wanted to move your leg it didn't? Were you looking down at your leg or watching the movie when attempting?

I didn't see it at a IMAX but did see it in 3D. The only strange thing was like you said I didn't touch my popcorn for awhile and when I went to bend over to get it and took my eyes off the screen I was kind of dizzy...

Like I said, the only thing I can compare it to was sleep paralysis. Of course I looked at my leg when I couldn't move it, but it still did not want to move, and I soon went back to the movie.

Re: Avatar
Saw it right before New Years, the effects were absolutely stunning, downright beautiful. It was a nice story too IMO.
