I'm not surprised and I won't buy anything HP either. The first red flag is HP absorbed Compaq years ago which was by far the worst company for computers. I don't trust any company in general for desktop/laptops so the best option is custom builds. If I had to go with a company it would be Dell. I also wouldn't call tech support for anything hardware related since I know from the get go that I'm not going to get anywhere.
I don't know why people go to these "squads" in retail chains for their computer problems, especially software related ones. They don't do anything that I can't do by myself FOR FREE.
I agree, I don't like laptops for many reasons.
