I was driving down a street the other day and saw a couple of little girls having a lemonade stand. I wasn't really thirsty but I stopped and bought some. They looked like thay were having fun holding signs up trying to get cars or pedestrians to stop. I like to stop if I can just to help them out.
I was wondering now, what do you think about kids having stands like this? Do you stop ? Do you disappove of them? Do you drive by and smile or wave? Any opinions? Did you have one when you were growing up?

Hi Hunter.
What do I think of them? In a neighborhood setting, my kids selling to other neighbors and friends, is fine.
Do I stop? Yes, sure do! Many kids on our street have them. They like to sell cookies too, so we try to contribute.
Do I disaprove of them? I won't let my daughter set one up blocks from home, say near a school or ballfield. Too risky in today's world (sad).
I always smile, even if we can't stop.
And yes, as a kid we sold lemonade all the time. I lived near my community's park and there'd be nightly softball games. We'd carry someone's card table down and set up business. Made a lot of money too. As I said before, that's not so wise today. JMO.

I think it's a GREAT idea.....my daughter last summer set one up, she made "48$'s" in one day!
I have to agree with Mary......as long as it's in our neighborhood, it's fine......as far as elsewhere....."NO!" Even though we live in a SMALL mountain community where everyone knows everyone and knows everyones business, we still have a LOT of summer tourists that I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw 'em!
I never had a stand when I was a kid........I was too busy fishin', riding horses, being a *real cowboy*

I have to agree about keeping near or at home because of todays dangers. My kids just set up a stand at our town fun day, While my wife and I ran the gunney sack races and other games, they were selling little bead rings they had been busy making the last few weeks. They thought it was great, they almost sold out.

This topic reminded me of something.
I tell you what's a good idea is serving coffee and donuts if you ever have a garage sale. We were once part of a street-wide sale, 20 plus homes participating. May-time but that morning it was freezing.....somewhere in upper 40s, low 50s I think. I have a 30 cup coffee maker and I just fired it right up. I had about 50 Christmas hot cups leftover....no one minded. LOL Sold many cups of coffee that morning. People would just come into our garage asking - hey where's that coffee I keep hearing about? Many asked if I had donuts to go with it. I didn't and couldn't just run out for them, the sale had started. But later when it was all over with, we all said - coffee and donuts next time. If it's not too hot out.
That's my suggestion of the day!

I never had a lemonade stand, but my sister and one of her friends did...and they had a blast.
So does Maddie and Nick...the past three years during summer break. Of course, sis doesn't leave them unattended; and their stand is located on the sidewalk in front of their house...most of the lemonade sales are to other neighborhood kids and their moms (and their hot, thirsty dad's after mowing lawns on weekends

I love to see the kids out there trying to earn some money for themselves. My daughters are always asking to have one. Unfortunately our street is more like an alley and I , too do not want them too far from home doing this. But when they do, any money they make gets to be spent in any way they want to.
This also reminds me of an article I read a couple of months ago. little girl was ticketed and summoned to court for not having a vendor's license for selling her lemonade. If memory serves me correctly, I believe it was in the southeast somewhere. Now if the court system doesn't have enough on their docket, they have to deal with frivilous crap like this. that shows you how our government is, they want a piece of everything, even a 10 year olds $2.50 profit.
I say go out and prosper, you are never too young to learn business sense.
