DECATUR, Ga. (Court TV) — An inmate's daring courtroom escape attempt fell through.
Ben N. Rogozensky, 31, was captured Sept. 8 literally "in chambers," when he crashed through a ceiling tile into the offices of Judge J. Antonio Delcampo prior to a scheduled bond hearing before the judge.
Rogozensky reportedly was one of about a dozen inmates in DelCampo's courtroom awaiting hearings when he was taken to an empty jury room to speak with his attorney.
With a deputy waiting outside, Rogozensky asked to go into the adjacent restroom. There he allegedly climbed into the ceiling crawl space, according to police.
Workers in Judge Delcampo's chambers reportedly began hearing a rumbling from above. Seconds later, the barefoot inmate fell through the ceiling near the judge's desk, where a technician was fixing the computer. The judge was in court at the time.
"He was here for a bond hearing when he made his entrance," said one of the judge's clerks, Samantha Whaley, who was on the phone with the sheriff's jail security office when Rogozensky dropped in.
"I've been working here for 14 years and I've never had that happen," Whaley added.
Court deputies were notified of the break-through and grabbed Rogozensky in the hallway.
Rogozensky was originally arrested on Sept. 2 on charges of giving false information and obstructing officers, according to the sheriff's department. He also is wanted in Gwinnett County for violating probation for a hit-and-run conviction and in New Jersey on a car theft charge, according to authorities.
Rogozensky now also faces an escape charge. He is not yet scheduled to re-appear in DeKalb County Court, according to Whaley.
