Boca the cell phone capital of the world? I doubt it!!! Come to Houston!!! It is ridiculous. I think we probably have about 85-90% of the people in Houston with cell phones. I swear I see people using them on their bikes, in their cars(duh), walking, EVERYWHERE. We even had one go off at the communion table at church once!!!!

As useful as they are and as good as the signals are these days for cell phones I don't think they are good enough for us to lose the land line yet. I still miss calls(dropped callls) on my cell. With aging and aged parents it is essential we have communincations that will work 24/7. Love the cell and have it on 24/7, including charging time, but not ready to lose the land line yet. Probably should drop most of the perks I have with the land line though to trim my costs. I only use about 4 of them. We've had voice mail, call waiting and caller id for years now, and have something called privacy manager on our land line that screens out 99% of the telemarketers. I use the phone books, which are monstrous here in Houston about 2x a year. Really don't need them.

We just canceled our land line phone this week. We were looking for ways to cut costs, figured out we were spending about $150 a month just on phones. It was pretty much split 50/50 in costs between the land line and cells, so we chose to cancel the reg phone because of the great deals we get on free minutes w/ the cells. We'll see if we can get along w/o it,right now it's been dang nice all week....... sooooo quiet !!! ~K

Interesting rates & ideas.
I have one land line with multiple phones for each room. Unlimited local/long distance 24/7, Caller ID, Call waiting, Call Block, 3way call, Call return, Speed dial, Auto Redial, Call Forwarding, Distinctive Ring, Anonymous Call Rejection. $49.95 a month. - Ends up being $62 with taxes and such.
2 cell phones, 300 minutes, 1000/Nightweekend, free LD, no roaming, voice mail, etc, etc. free unlimited cell to cell to anyone using Excel Wireless (not just my family) $45 per phone
The kicker I finally get a rebate (2%) each month on all my land+wireless bills. Not much but hey couple dollars each month is more than $0.
Security of a having a clear land line, with optional cell phones when needed and a rebate. Relying on cell phones only, sure I'm there, when there is 100% reliable...battery low, lost signals, ...when home I want a solid always working line, that never has to be monitored for usage or any interruptions - but that's just me.

I really never use the phone. I only took two calls several months ago from two different people I met online. I do not know what to say in a phone conversation.
However, I think it would be neat to have a cell phone, in terms of having a personal phone. Odd thought with not liking telephones in general.
