FORT WORTH, Texas (Star-Telegram) - Police swept into neighborhoods around Polytechnic High School on Thursday, arresting six suspected gang members in an operation that involved 30 officers.
Five juveniles -- the youngest 14 -- and one adult were taken into custody at or near their homes as officers simultaneously served warrants at all locations, police said.
The roundup was designed to quell rising tension after a recent dispute between rival gangs at the high school led to gunfire just off school grounds, Sgt. Bill Beall said.
Officers planned to arrest some of the juveniles at school, but learned in the morning that none of the students showed up for class Thursday, he said. Some were students at alternative schools.
