SEATTLE, Wa. (Court TV) — A youth-basketball coach was accused of raping one of his players and another girl when they were both under 10 years old.
The 44-year-old man, who has not been identified, was arrested at the Snohomish County Courthouse last week while he was appearing at a custody hearing unrelated to the allegations. He was released and has yet to be formally charged.
One of the alleged victims, now 14 years old, said she was sexually assaulted by the suspect while he was a coach at the Alderwood Boys and Girls Club (news - web sites) when the girl was nine years old, according to a statement released by the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office. The victim quit the team after the assault took place.
The other alleged victim, now 10, said she was assaulted when she was 8 years old. She was not affiliated with the suspect's coaching activities. Both victims were assaulted while inside the suspect's home, authorities said.
The suspect left the Alderwood Club around the time the rapes allegedly occurred. He coached another area team for girls between the ages of 9 and 12, according to the sheriff's office.
