'Rings' Star Named 36th Bacchus

NEW ORLEANS -- Elijiah Wood, currently starring in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, on Thursday was named Bacchus XXXVI.

Wood, at 22, is the youngest Bacchus ever. A special "Rings"-themed float will be created for him.

Bacchus, one of the city's super krewes with about 1,100 members on 27 floats, rolls on the Sunday before Mardi Gras.

Last Mardi Gras, comedian Jon Lovitz reigned as king of Bacchus.

I try to go every year to the Quarter for Mardi Gras. Had a great time last year!!.

I can't believe they chose Elijah. He is too young. lol.

It's a blast! And you don't have to go to New Orleans! Celebrations are held in Galveston, Mobile, Gulfport, and somewhere else that escapes my memory. Some have argued that Mobile is the official location, but I always thought it was NOLA.
