SI

Yes, I have raised boys through that age. We are a Christian family who do not have that trash in our home. Did they look at it somewhere else at that age out of normal curiosity? Could be, but we certainly didn't encourage that. However, I stand by my argument that 6th graders have enough discretion to know better than to bring such a magazine to school. At least, the many young boys I knew through my sons over the years knew better. Their parents would have been upset if they had taken the SI to school, and they knew better. I think it depends on the situation at home to a large part. Are the parents involved enough in their kids' lives to properly guide them?

Well SI Swimsuit issue is not hard core stuff. And boys will be boys no matter how you try to raise them. lol. The suspension is not justified.

thanks Linda...boys will be boys

Let me enlighten you sunnyday
13 year old boys WILL have them a stash of "stuff" somewhere (perhaps not in your home) whether you want to believe it or not.

J, I have to ask how you handled it when you raised your boys.

if we are talking about the whole sexual curiosity thing, I handled it by telling him I know what goes through the minds of boys his age, I was that age once too, and that he is no different than any other boy out there...HOWEVER...I did not want to see any of that stuff in our home.

In esscence, I was telling him to have some discretion :), and to be better about hiding said material.

What is important (IMO) about raising a boy, is not denying (to yourself) that they have sexual curiosity, and accepting the fact that they WILL find a way to view woman in various stages of dress. The less the better.

All that being said, disciplinary action was to be taken, if said material was discovered in our house.

Isn't it illegal to let minors view pornographic material because of child exploitation laws? That's part of the difference between this and the SI issue. Kids seeing women in swimsuits is one thing; kids seeing the acts in various stages and combinations like shown in pornographic magazines and videos only serves to cause harm.

As I said, sexual curiosity is normal and healthy. However, I don't want that mess in my house, and you obviously don't either.

*blushing* Sheesh, so much for trying to find out the laws. Half the search engine sites were described as stuff that I did not care to click! :o

Linda -- I'll emphasize that I said "let" them look at it. I know you didn't. You guys both disciplined your kids after finding out about it. :) Child predators, on the other hand, try to get kids to look at it and they tell them it's okay, in a sick effort to arouse the child's curiousity and to arouse the child. That's a major reason why it's illegal. Even something as mild as Playboy, which is usually only nude pictures, but not photographs of the actual acts, are illegal.

I still have to get a glimpse of the SI issue. I find it hard to believe that it is really indecent or obscene. Are certain body parts covered? Are there acts being portrayed, either implicitly or explicitly?

So, about the same as this?:

Edit: It's the cover of Vanity Fair with Demi Moore in a painted on suit. (Figured I'd better add that, otherwise no one would know what the heck they were about to click on :o ).

(Warning: If you are under 18, don't click the link. There's nothing to see there. Nevertheless, you shouldn't click it!)
