Do It For Your Country

#1 Postby southerngale » Tue May 18, 2004 1:56 pm

Couples in Australia now have a nice incentive to have children - 2,000 bucks for every baby born after June. Peter Costello, the treasurer of the country, said that two children per couple in a nation of 20 million just isn't enough to sustain growth. He said it is the "patriotic duty" of couples to have at least three children. The initiative will be up for grabs for the next five years. "You should have ... one for your husband, one for your wife, and one for your country," Costello said. Some couples might have to go even further and have extra children "for your country" to accommodate for the gap left by those "who are not even replicating themselves." The father of three ended the news conference by telling reporters, "You go home and do your patriotic duty tonight."

I guess they don't have overcrowded schools/highways in Australia, considering they want to increase their natural population. We have a similar program here in the states rewarding people for having children, it's called welfare.

Wanna make a quick million bucks?

How about a maternity top that mommies can buy with an arrow pointing to her growing tummy and words that say, "...And This One's For Our Country!"

ALMOST makes me want to move back home but the extra bucks don't even BEGIN to cover the cost of raising a child.

Babysitters could make a killing though!

Its disgusting thinking of bringing children into the world just to be a bunch of cheap calculators....To bribe people to bring children into the world just to bolster economics makes my skin crawl ...it is disgusting to the extreme ...What that "person" said about "doing patriotic duty" was disgusting and he should be ashamed of himself. These are not human beings to this person these are numbers that are used to create more numbers (economically speaking)...I DONT BELIEVE THERE IS AN OVERPOPULATION OF PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD BUT THERE IS AN OVERPOPULATION OF GREED AND MATERIALISM THAT IS FOR SURE. Planet Earth is well capable of taking care of 6 billion people if the people just didnt want so much and take so much ...IF people learned to take only what they need and no more 6 billion would be nothing and we wouldnt have to genetically engineer anything in order to feed the masses. Its the fact that human beings are turning living land into parking lots is the reason why you have a situation why people starve in this world. Love the land and treat it as if it were sacred and you'd have plenty to feed the masses.
