4 year Anniversary
Tomorrow, Sept 2 will the 4th year anniversary of my oldest son's kidney transplant. Recently he received a letter from his donor's sister wanting contact with the people that received her brother's organs. She described her brother as a fun loving happy guy who would not hesitate to help a friend in need or to give someone the shirt off his back if they needed it. My son answered her letter with an expression of gratitude for her brother's generosity in donating his organs. His gift of a kidney enabled him to go on and become a freelance photographer. What he didn't tell her was that my nephew was behind her brother's car when he had the wreck that ended his life. My nephew said it looked like a truck had clipped the brother's rear end and sent him over the edge of the overpass. I wish that he had not died in such a way like this since he was such a good guy, I wish my son could have known him.

DayLilyDawn - in a profound way, your son does 'know' this young man. While his tragic death is very sad to understand, his donation of organs is to be commended here. I'm so glad a few years ago when asked if I wanted to be a donor (driver's license renewal time), I said YES. Your topic possibly should be moved over to Off Topic, to receive the attention it deserves. This is just a subtle reminder of the good that come out of a tragedy - organ donation. Imagine the possibilities if more drivers would say yes.
It also must make the donor's sister feel very good to know your son healed well, is feeling great and went on to the career of his choice!
