Gunman holed up in house fires at police
IRVING, Texas (The Dallas Morning News) - A man barricaded in an Irving home fired at police for hours Friday night. No officers had been injured as the standoff continued late Friday.
Irving police Officer David Tull said the standoff started about 6 p.m. in the 1200 block of Mistletoe Drive when neighbors reported hearing shots fired in the house. When police arrived at the scene, the man shot at them with several high-powered rifles.
Officer Tull said there was no indication the man had hostages. Police were trying to determine Friday night who lived at the house. Police were not sure why the man started the standoff, but friends and relatives said he recently had gone through a breakup.
