What is the FIRST New Year's Eve you remember?

The first New Year's Eve that I clearly recall was New Year's Eve 1969 (turning into 1970).

We were visiting our Aunt and Uncle on base at Ft. Campbell Kentucky. I remember watching the ball drop on TV, then I was sent to bed (I had just turned 7 two days earlier). I was rather impressed that I "stayed up with the grown-ups).

I can't remember what year... but it was before I turned 10, we waited for Nova Scotia to celebrate the New Year and then went to bed. It was like 10pm here.

Going into 2000, I watched ABC's Millenium coverage that entire day. I got up at 5am when 2000 started in the South Pacific.

New Year's Eve, 1957; we got pizza, Fritos and a sip of pink bubbly, then watched the "ball" fall on our 8" screen Muntz TV...HEAVY stuff back then!

My twins and I did that too. We watched all day, into the night. They were just 3 weeks shy of their 5th birthday, but they really really wanted to stay up. Being that this was a rather historic New Year's Eve, I agreed to let them try to stay up to Midnight (our time). They made it to 10:30 pm.

They still remember that New Year's Eve.

The first New Years Eve I can recall was 1973 (12/31/73)...when I was eleven....and is memorable because it was very stormy (tornado watches & warnings kept flashing across the tv screen during the Sugar Bowl between Notre Dame and Alabama....which also happened to be one of the greatest football games I've ever seen).

The first one I can remember was when I was five years old. It was the last time I saw my great great grandfather. He died a month later. He was such a sweet person. We didn't have fireworks, but we were given pots and pans to bang on and all the children in the neighborhood went up and down the street. We rarely had cold drinks, and I remember we had coca cola and lots of snacks. I think we watched Lawrence Welk and everybody danced in the living room.
