YankeeGirl, my folks and I can relate to some of those as we moved to Cranston, RI when I was a year-old and lived there for a year before moving back to the Midwest to be nearer to my Mom's mother and Dad's folks!!
In fact, on some reeaal old tape recorder reels (whatever you call those now antique thingamajigs!)
we could actually make out the starting of a New England dialect on me!
I was born in Indiana...my sister was born in Providence, RI...anyway, I remember terms like a "cabinet", "quahog", etc., from my folks...and some friends of our's (who at the time lived in Gaspee Point, RI)!!

Ah...so nice to hear 'proppah' English! Been away 16 'yeahs', don't miss the weather a bit but the food - oh yeah!
Not long ago I was in a restroom stall, heard a mother say to a child, "Put the pappah towel in the *gahbidge*" I came out walked over to wash my hands and asked the mother, "So...what 'pot' of Rhode Island are you from?" She was amazed that I was so 'psychic'.
RI is so small and has such a unique accent, sort of a hybrid Brooklyn/Boston.
Of course, down here in Charleston there's lots of strange pronunciations too, really strange
