Area High Schools Make the Grade

DALLAS, Texas (The Dallas Morning News) - Ever wonder how your high school measures up?

In Newsweek's most recent edition, the magazine ranked Dallas' Science and Engineering magnet school No. 6 nationally; Highland Park No. 12; W.T. White No. 77 and Grapevine No. 100.

To compile its "America's Best High Schools" list, editors divided the number of Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams taken in 2004 by the number of graduating seniors.

Locals within the top quarter of the 1,000 schools were Colleyville Heritage at No. 110; Fort Worth Paschal No. 136; Garland No. 178; Plano West No. 179; Southlake Carroll No. 235 and Coppell No. 236.

I was surprised to see the number of Florida schools on this list. I was previously under the impression that Florida schools were very poor performers.

Two Cincinnati HS's came in the top 100. Quite impressive. A few more 101-1000. My daughters' HS came in close to 1,000, upper 900s.

first wisconsin school was 213... Milwaukee's Rufus King....most wisconsin schools in 900-1000... no local schools were mentioned.
