My brother left a message fifteen minutes ago and said that my mother is out of surgery and is in some pain and should be able to come home in a couple hours.

For Miss Mary's daughter Nina...
One of the most difficult challenges facing a child with a medical or physical ailment is the conflict between their need for care and discipline in how they approach the problem
Peer pressure, not doctors or fear, can often dictate a decision that can lead to trouble. Most teens see themselves as nearly invincible...downplaying risks in favor of not missing out on the fun.
Mary...we share your concern over your daughter's challenges. As a parent, it is SO hard to let out a little rope and hope they make the right decisions. But it is something we must do.
Perhaps she was scared enough...is concerned enough...that she will make better decisions in the future about those things that can be harmful to her health. If nothing else, she might make better decisions just so she doesn't miss out on some fun.
Your concerns are real...and rest assured they are felt by all of us who have had to stand on the sidelines and hope our children make the right decisions.

Steve!! Love the idea!!!
Garnet, BTDT with my Dad when he was alive. His heart problems were not small and in fact "killed" him more than once, but God chose to bring him back each time. To say the least he and my Mom both became much more active in the Church than they had been in many, many years. I always found it strange that the two who had instilled such strong christian beliefs in me had not been to church for years. I will be keeping your father, you and your family in my prayers as you all seek the healing desired.
TLC is of course still in my prayers. Thanks Steve for witnessing for her to God's almighty power!
Tom, glad to know things are going well for your Mom! I will keep her and you in my prayers for a speedy return to normal.
Nina, Miss Mary's daughter has been added to the prayer list for continued improvement and learning for her life skills, also.

Tom...my friend...I lost my mom more than 31 years ago to a stroke diagnosed as the flu. She was angry at me about a recent decision I had made, and while I had a couple of chances to say I was sorry while at her bedside, I did not.
In my mind, the flu would pass and time would heal our wounds of words.
I missed an opportunity.
Use God's gift of time with your mom to say those things, to do those things, that not only heal her physically but strengthen you both emotionally and spiritually.
That burden for me has faded through the years but manifested itself in many ways nonetheless.
