Vatican says his heart and brain are still functioning.

The SECOND bronzed door has not been closed. Nor have the shutters been closed, so he is not gone yet.

What is it Mark Twain said...something like, "Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated."

Definitely conflicting times. In either case, it's sad. But may the lord bless his soul.

Some of the media people jumps the gun to be the first to report on breaking news that later has to be denied as many times has passed in many of the news about important events. We have to wait for the official word from the Vatican.

Okay, now someone just made a brief statement in Italian and ended with, "Graci." (sp? I don't know much Italian...where's Paolo?)

So, was that the announcement?

(Now that I've sent retraction emails to my coworkers. )

ETA -- just got translation via *coughCNNcough* "BREAKING NEWS AP: The Vatican denies reports in Italian media that Pope John Paul II has died. "

They should have denied it as soon as it was reported. Why wait 45 minutes and let the world media report it?

Because they're not here and hearing what we're hearing? I think they're denying it now. Like I said, I don't understand Italian, but I heard "cuando il Padre muerte" or something to that effect which I assume is close enough to Spanish to translate as "When the Pope dies...," so "when" is a good clue that it hasn't happened yet.

I was listening to Fox when I heard someone in the background yell "the Pope has died".

This is why we have to wait for official news not post rapidly everything that the media says because many times it turns out not being true.

They are praying the Pope's mysteries on the rosary right now at the Vatican.

I can understand an Italian News agency reporting this. They report all kinds of fiction, but for Reuters and the world media to say that he has died and then dial back is an outrage. This is crazy.

You do NOT report someone is dead until you know for sure. Surely the Florida 2000 vote taught them that or the exit polls in 2004.

I am going to send a e-mail to CNN and Fox expressing my outrage.

But ABC, CBS and NBC should be commended. They did not interrupt for a special report to spout this fiction.

When you see the shutters closed, that is a signal.

We thought the door and the bells were also.

That is normally - but the shutters are the, for lack of a better term, the "tell all". When they are closed, he is gone. I'm wondering if the bells tolled at the report from the Italian News agency, rather than word from the Vatican itself (which you are right, Duckie, that is what we need to wait for).

My goodness, the crowds outside of the Vatican are huge. It's been so long since the passing of the last Pope...

I'm sorry y'all, for being so emotional. I guess you all can tell that I am a person who wears my heart on my sleeve.

Sunny, first of all, thanks so much for your insight :D

I have a question for you: When you say the shutters, you mean the pope's apartment shutters, right?

You are welcome :D

Yes, the shutters on his apartment. They keep showing them on Fox - as far as I can tell, it is the only part with lights on. When those close...
