Not to split hairs but didn't you mean molehill? I mean, one would have to make a crater, not a mountain, out of a pothole.

No hairs split... I was using literary license and did mean "pothole"... playin' with the original bromide using sarcasm to create an even greater difference (dichotomy). I did mean pothole; but thanks.

Who will supply the troops for the U.N. Force though? Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. are heavily tied up.

"White House spokesman Tony Snow said Tuesday that the payments -- or "reimbursements" -- to the State Department were mandated under the 2003 Foreign Relations Authorization Act passed by Congress"

just following the law I suppose!

they are being given commercial rates and those that can't pay will sign a promissory note to pay when they can. Not the best of situations but no one will be denied passage.

They would have had to pay to come home eventually anyway. They're in a dangerous place and others are risking their lives to get them out. I'd be shocked if anyone actually complained about having to pay for their way out. I certainly wouldn't! I'd be eternally grateful that people risked their lives to get me out.

more inflamatory rhetoric from Iran:

http://today.reuters.com/news/newsartic ... rss&rpc=22

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran's Hizbollah, which claims links to the Lebanese group of the same name, said on Tuesday it stood ready to attack Israeli and U.S. interests worldwide.

"We have 2,000 volunteers who have registered since last year," said Iranian Hizbollah's spokesman Mojtaba Bigdeli, speaking by telephone from the central seminary city of Qom.

"They have been trained and they can become fully armed. We are ready to dispatch them to every corner of the world to jeopardise Israel and America's interests. We are only waiting for the Supreme Leader's green light to take action. If America wants to ignite World War Three ... we welcome it," he said.

But I'm sure they have already paid for round trip tickets...Just think of how much they have had to pay just to stay there while this has happened..I'm sure any food and water that is still there is being gouged heavily...

I am sure if they paid for round trip, the airlines will reimburse them for coming back since the airport is not open.

Prepare for a shock, Kelly, they're already screaming bloody murder about it. I wonder how many news outlets have been proclaiming that the vast majority of these US Citizens are either dual-citizenship folks, or Muslims, thousands of whom have sympathy with Hezbollah? Personally, I'm with you--they paid to go over there, they would have had to pay to come back anyway; simply because it's being cut short shouldn't make it the US Taxpayer's tab.

That is a valid point. Perhaps something can be arranged with the airlines wherein the reimburse the US Govt. the untendered return trip fee. JMO

People need to take some responsibility some times. They went there. Just like a cane. Do people in the resorts that have been wiped out ask the US to pay their fare home since the airports are down. The airports over there are down, so they will be reimbursed for their trip back that they made. So, they have to pay anyway to leave.

Unreal. I wouldn't risk my life for someone so ungrateful. Of course I've never understood the whole "gimme! gimme! gimme!" mentality.
