This whole thread is amazing to me. I'm not really a political creature and I try to see both sides of every argument. So I can understand why some people in this country are for the war in Iraq and some are against it. That's the beauty of America-you can express an unpopular opinion and not be frightened that some storm trooper is going to take you away in the middle of the night.
My late father fought in Italy during World War II. Many of his fellow soldiers lost their lives during that time. Whenever he told me about his war experiences, he always mentioned the warm, loving Italian people and how he was proud to have helped them during the war. It seems to me that the Italians and the French and people all over the world have always turned to the United States when they need help. And, you know, we've always been there to give it.
PaolofromRome, I remember you from the other board. I always looked forward to your posts. As I recall, you predicted our hurricances by the bubbles rising from your pasta (if this is a different Paolo, I apologize.) Whoever you are, it hurts me to see how quickly you and your countrymen have forgotten the fine job my father and his friends did for you. You have forgotten all of the times my country has come to the aid of smaller or weaker nations.
When your country is in need again, to whom will you turn? France? India? Tell me. I'm curious. When your country needs money, who will you ask? Saudi Arabia? Iran? Japan?
You know what Paolo? I'll bet that if your country needs help soon or in the future, your leaders will look to Washington.Only this time it might be a tad different. America isn't asking anyone to "follow us into something bad" as you put it. I'm sorry you don't see it that way. Frankly with all the anti-American sentiment in your country, it would make ME think twice about offering aid again. That's just me. We'll see what the people in power who make the decisions think. The President, The Congress and so on.
You hate Americans now? Fine. Try living without our tourism dollars. We can live without Italian leather and other Italian imports if we need to. No problem.
Wait! Let's call a truce Paolo. How about you hold up on that anger and hostility and scorn you are spewing. It doesn't suit you. Your friends here at Storm2K aren't deserving of it. And really, neither is the good old USA.
Just my 2 cents.
