Cindy - places to get help with a press release on the fund:
Contact the community editor for the PB Post (or similar title for the editor) and ask for help with doing a press release or article. Also, the assistant manager at the bank should be able to help. Plus the funeral home.
Some specific personal info can be gleaned from the dad's obituary.
Hope that made sense.

so far as extended family there is his ex's mother and he has a sister. I don't know much about her. and the grandmother has not been any help at all, to my knowledge, at this point. They are staying with friends ( next door to the burned down house)
the sister doesn't have a lot herself. I know she will do what she can. And friends and work are wanting to do what they can, but these kids need alot now. will find out the school she was going to and let you know. Today they have been making all the arrangements so I am going to see them tomorrow and will have more info. The friends they are staying with - she mentioned maybe contacting Oprah also.
I want to get the word out in the paper but how do we do it without telling the whole story about the mom? or should we? i just want to handle it the best way for the kids, ya know.

you posted while i was writing! thanks for the ideas. will see what i can do. i just don't want to cause any more pain for these kids than they have suffered. When he got the restraining order aganist the ex she showed up and wouldn't leave - this was when she was still out on bail - before the trial -he called the police - the officer asked to see the restraining order which was in his truck - as he went to the truck to get it she stepped in front of him and he lifted her up out of the way and set her down. - well it was a new policeman and he arrested both of them in front of the girls. him for domestic violence! there were witnesses and his charges were dropped. then the palm beach post wrote it up in the paper! but never about what actually happened. Jim said, he probably should have asked the cop to get her out of the way, but he did not hurt her or have any intention of such! so these girls, have been through more than anyone will ever know.

Didn't see how old the two younger ones were, but it is a tragedy regardless. Additionally, I suspect that somewhere Florida's Child and Family Services will be involved. I don't know if 20 is an age of consent for all decisions in the family by the oldest daughter, and if not, there will be custody issues that come along unless the "closer" immediate family takes a role in determining that.
Sad sad story nonetheless. Keep us posted on the progress they make.
Children are remarkably resilient, but this is going to be a long road for them.

good news - a sheriff that responded to the 911 call from the kids read a letter Jim had written regarding what he wanted for a sentence for their mom said in all his years he has never felt so compelled by a story and is going to also help with raising funds for this family. so today after the services for jim we are going to get together to discuss what can be done for them!

the latest - the service was beautiful. really geared towrds the girls. Jessica (the older daughter) got up & spoke - it was heart rendering. met the sheriff and we are going to the bank with jessica this morning. the sheriff is going to try to secure funds for the girls college educations. Jessica is going to the Univ of Central Florida - turns out she had decided to beome a dentist, but will put on hold and go with the teaching thing for now. she was to graduate in Aug.! with her 4 year degree. she has got so much on her plate. she is such a mature 22 year old - she just turned 22.

It's cases like this that should make us all sit up, take a look at our own lives and be thankful for EVERYTHING we have, regardless of our own situations, there is always someone else who has it worse than we could ever imagine!
Truly one of the worst cases I've heard in a LONG, LONG time
my prayers go out to these little angels...let me know the account number once it's set up, we might be able to add a little to this wonderful cause.

turns out the deputy sheriff is concentrating on the girls college educations, but have found 1 person that is going to take the girls shopping. they are staying with friends until they can afford a palce of their own. Jessica only had 9 months to go for her college degree. If we can get enough funds together we are trying to work with the school so she could get the rest of her hours here on line and if the profs are willing, through transient classes at fau - if they offer similar classes to what she needed. getting this degree will help them secure their future, but they have to have money to live and a place to call home in the mean time.
