I just got off the phone with Jackie. You guys won't believe it, but Dakota has done a 360° in the past 24 hours and Jackie attributes that to your prayers. They drained the fluid around his liver and are culturing it. He is responding to the antibiotic and is now eating on his own. There is a possibility that he can go home on Friday. For those of you who were wondering Dakota is 12 years old. His weight is down to 50#. I'm sure Jackie will fatten him up when she gets him home.
You guys are the best. Keep those prayers commin!!!
Thanks
Karan

PRAISE GOD!!!!THANK YOU KARAN!!!
I was going to call if I hadn't found this, but will give it some time now.
Having met Jackie in person, I can tell you she is just as special and sweet and FUYLL OF FAITH as she sounds the boards. NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS HER FAITH IS UNWAVERING AND AN INSPIRATION!!! I feel honored to know her.
ISN'T THE POWER OF PRAYER AWESOME!!!! As often as I've seen it work, I am still awed everytime I see prayer in action!!!

This just in from Jackie.
Okay, for the record I am sharing all of this with you with bated breath....A couple of times we have come close to this day only to be set back.I almost did not want to share just in case it happened again....BUT...I have been praying, I am filled with hope and confidence that this time it's truly it.
We are slated to come home tomorrow.PRAISE GOD>>>THANK YOU JESUS....Can we say AMEN??!! AMEN!!!
He's got a row to hoe yet, will have a picc line in, have to recieve antibiotics for a week to fourteen days. Then in about two/three weeks we have to go back for some minor surgery to remove three bladder stones.doc says that at the most we will have to stay overnight...he promises no extended stay.
Friends I am so happy, but I am also so cautious not to get my hopes up to high, the down of looking forward to coming home and then not being able to is almost more than can be born.
He still has the pancreatitis, but the levels are not that high that it means a longer stay in the hospital. He is on a low-fat/bland diet....but he is not complaining.Yesterday he was given the all clear to eat.I left him in the morning with the PT girl. When she was done with him she left him in his room.I came back about ten minutes later to find him sitting in a chair, cheeks puffed out, handfuls of Goldfish and Bugles ready to fill that mouth as soon as he swallowed.I asked him where he got the contraband, he said at the vending machine on the sixth floor.I asked if the nurse knew he left the floor...alone....and she popped her head round the curtain and said...no!He winked at us and giggled...he did get busted though but not by us first.Seems his one urology doctor found him there...he gave him the okay for only one bag each and then that's it, from what I learned they shared a "Guy Laugh" about him escaping the unit and then told my son he best get his rear back on the unit before mom and the nurse came a huntin'
I did not have the heart to scold him, he looked so happy, so hungry, I am so thankful that I have him to perform boyish mischief, so thankful that he feels up to escaping, takes a bit of energy to sneak past the nurses station!
I got the scare of my life today.I am so glad that they waited until today to have the "talk" with me.I knew he was very sick, I just learned today how close we came to losing him.Gave me the chills friends.Doctor said next time we might not be so lucky, I said luck has nothing to do with it, but I understand where he was coming from and what he was trying to convey to me.
My son has already had to make changes to his life, it seems that we will have to make a few more to ensure that this does not happen again. He has the gift of quietness in his soul, he is an old soul, I think that quality will serve him well in making these new adjustments.
I best be getting him back to his room. There are only five computers in the library and you only get a wee slice of time.Snack time soon anyway and we don't want to miss a snack! Dad will be arriving in the morning, with hope and the divine hand of God to push these doctors along with the discharge process we should be home by noon.
My dear friends it is with wonderful joy that I finally can post in your mailboxes truly good news, thanks, thanks, thanks for standing by us,for lending your thoughts, prayers and love.My son's happy ending is all of your happy endings, each of you have a claim in it for it was your prayers and your love that helped the healing process for him.Rejoice, celebrate for as much as it is Dakota's and our celebration it is yours as well.
All for now, hugs to each of you, BIG bear stuffing hugs and tears of joy!
With deep appreciation and heartfelt love to one and all,
Jackie, Tom,Dakota and girls
Prayer is amazing
Thanks

Karan (and Jackie),
Once again, thanks for keeping us informed. And now a personal note from Jackie too! That is the best way to start my Friday. I've been thinking long and hard about what Dakota has been going thru and at only the tender age of 12. I really feel for him and Jackie, too. The entire family. The bland diet? I can relate there. Been there, done that and still there. The not eating? I went for almost 14 days w/o food after my first colon resection surgery - I don't count green watery cream (ha, what cream, milk?) of celery soup, sponges on sticks that nurses swab your mouth out with so it doesn't dry out, and of course the ever present IV's fluids. Thank God for IV fluids. But boy when you can't have certain foods - you want them! I wanted crunchy foods, not green watery soup. So until you're in a situation like this, you just can't imagine what little Dakota did - I swear I kicked myself big time for not packing saltines. And would I have eaten them - you bet! I had to chuckle at him sneaking Bugles - oh, Jackie, that did bring a smile! Kids have a marvelous way of rebounding from situations like this. Quicker than adults do. That's what I'm hoping for Jackie - that he does continue to heal well and improve. And faster than we could. Well, God Bless Jackie and Karan too. I think you two need to meet after this. Off into the future but you need to meet eachother. Karan's been your voice for us Jackie! What a friend she is to you and us all!

Rainband, Jackie is a dear friend to all of us. Your prayers for her and her family are really appreciated. Hey, if you want to pray for me and my family thanks. I think you got the impression we were related. Well, that's OK, I love her like one of my family. Like most of us here, I've never met her in person - but I'm gonna some day!!!!
You guys are really something.
I can't tell you how glad I am to be here.
Take care my friends
