Duckie - your story reminds me of someone I worked with in an office for 4 years. She spent the entire time denigrating anyone who chose office work as a career (thanks for insulting all your co-workers you idiot!) and CONSTANTLY bragged on herself for going to NURSING SCHOOL. All day long she blew off her office work, shuffled it on to other people, and studied.

The last straw was when she actually started hands-on patient care. All day long she would tell stories of a sexual nature about the patients she had seen the night before. "Ha ha ha! You should have seen the size of that guy's b***s!" The poor man had post-op problems following a vasectomy, and she was using his medical problem for a freakin stand-up routine.

I've had too many humiliating medical tests to tolerate her blatant HIPPA violations. I wrote the Dean at her NURSING SCHOOL about her activities and suggested he remind her of exactly what HIPPA encompasses. She still didn't get it - just shut her mouth whenever I happened to be within earshot.

I just thank God that after 6 weeks of working in a hospital, she couldn't hack it and went back to the long-denigrated office work. That is one person who should never be allowed to have any care over a helpless patient.

That is usually what happens to know it alls too Jen. They are either "outed" for who they really are or they will back themselves into a corner without even realizing how stupid they look and sound.

ALMOST ALWAYS a boss will put trust in this type person only to be let down later. It is sad.

Some people do not know how to act when they are given a little bit of power. It comes back on them though, eventually.

And don't you just hate those ones that act all innocent and goody goody? It makes me laugh.

Yeah, the ones who are oblivious to how clearly we all see through them -- who keep milking their bosses for every last bit of power, only to have it bite them in the butts later.

I know what you mean. And you can try to offer as much support for the boss as possible until you realize how blind he/she is about the whole situation. Then, when it comes back, all you can do is sit back and watch as the boss sits there with his/her jaw on the floor, shocked by how the person did them or the company in.

I remember it happening once when this one coworker ended up cheating customers and the boss out of lots of money. You'd think the boss would learn to listen to others next time around.

This same woman also loved to diagnose everyone she saw with some psychological disorder. Too bad she didn't see her own narcissistic / histrionic personality disorder!
