Maybe the poster meant referring to hi-tech weapons as toys was ridiculous.

Perhaps so...but frankly I think that's a BIG stretch. Besides; if you're going to leave a one-liner response, as if to make some profound point--perhaps it would be best to let readers know just what it is you're calling ridiculous. Personally, I think Southerngale hit the nail on the head--then again, the estimable individual in question might wish to clarify the matteer for all of us.

Israel estimates half Hezbollah's military destroyed

Maybe the above statement from CNN means it may be coming to an end shortly.

I was only responding to what Brent posted earlier, if you would have really looked into the veil a little more carefully

Trying desperately to keep this on topic--all Brent implied was that Israel shares a lot of the same Hi-Tech "toys" as the US. Perhaps you could lift the "veil" a little more and tell us where it was so ridiculous.

Seriously. My comment was only because the discussion seems to stay on topic for the most part, then when NBCintern joins in, arguments ensue. I was hoping my little comment would be taken as a hint and we could continue, but apparently not.

Sorry about that, Kelly; but you gotta know how hard it can be at times. You make an excellent point though (boy would that "ignore" button be nice--maybe some of the mods could talk about the possibility of acquiring one)--just might avoid a LOT of these sidetracks.

I just read on a site that two "foreign" journalist have been kidnapped by Hizbollah. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

Have you heard any more on this, Sunny (Trying to get back on track!) because if this is true, it could take a nasty turn for the worse. I heard a Lebanese woman on our radio today, and she was almost in tears and interestingly enough, she was NOT blaming Israel--she was blaming Hezbollah, which she called Iran's proxy army in her country. She laid all the guilt right at the feet of Hezbollah, and said it was her fervent prayer that Hezbollah is completely crushed as they are ruining her country. --- thought she made a lot of good points.

How long will this last when Syria and Iran will be rearming and sending more men as soon as the roads are passable and the airport reopened. They need more UN peacekeepers in a buffer zone to prevent the launch of missiles and the government of Lebanon needs to get off its keester and do more than just talk.

Is that how it works? anyone know?

No other countries will become involved unless they are attacked or this thing spreads so out of control that it's a major threat to world stability. Even if it spreads to Iran, the US and UN won't become involved simply to have an excuse to beat Iran. Israel has the ability to ruin Iran all by itself.

Israel Vice Premier Shimon Perez told MSNBC in an interview today that Israel is quite proud of the fact that in all its history it has never had to ask for the assistance of US soldiers and plans to keep it that way.

It's being blown way out of proportion. I don't think most people realize that Israel has both the technology and stamina to beat Lebanon, Syria, and Iran all by itself.

Yep. Don't ever mess with Israel... you'll be sorry. They have the same high-tech toys we do.

:beam:  :slime:

that has to be the most ridiculous statements yet.

Its a ridiculous statement for two reasons.

1. The use of toys, which is colloquial I know but comes off awful. War isn't a game, and too many people already act as if it were.

2. All of the silly emoticons.

That said it is factually correct. The Israelis have sophisticated weapons and a very well trained military.

Any developments on the potential of a sustained ground invasion by Israel into Lebanon? I have been away from the television most of the day so I haven't had a lot of time to keep up.

I'd found references to a couple being detained and released.. but figured that mightn't have been the ones... both Fwbreeze and Sunny's links seem to suggest an abduction story-- dunno, I can't find anything about it anywhere, and I belong to several news sources online..including several through Reuters, AP, NYT, Wash Post etc..... none of them have anything on this as of the time of this post anyway.

Hope all this turns out to be is a rumor that turns out to be untrue.

They had someone on one of the shows who was quite insistent that this is exactly what Israel was preparing to do... then someone else who said that all they wanted to do was damage their "arms" supplies badly enough to make it easier for the actual Lebanese army to deal with them.

At this point, I guess the only ones who know for sure, are the leaders of the Israeli military.

Then along comes this...

The Lebanese Minister of Defense warned Israel Thursday that if IDF ground forces are sent into southern Lebanon, Lebanese troops will fight along with the Hizbullah against Israel.

Oh, does this mean the Lebanese government and the Hizbullah are buddies now?

That's pretty weird. It almost sounds like Israel has created a new enemy for itself with the bombing of Lebanon. Not very smart.

I don't think it shows that at all. It seems more likely that Israel has made things worse for itself and created new enemies just like they did in the invasion during the 80s.

Or they've exposed an OLD ENEMY, for who they always were, and that's been there all along--which would be very smart.

As surrounded by them as they are, I doubt they need or wish to create new enemies; however it would be to their advantage to expose a rattlesnake in their midst that's been there all along. The Lebanese government had been given repeated warnings to do something about Hezbollah... they are either an utterly impotent military, or simply chose not to comply. In either case, they gave Israel very few options as to its choice of actions in dealing with a terror group hell-bent on the annihilation of Israel--and one, which the the media hasn't played up nearly enough, which has NEVER really stopped their random acts in that region--the kidnapping of the IDF members was what I'd call a stupid move--and they (Hezbollah) are paying a very dear price for it.

I think the old enemy was more likely Syria and Iran not everyday Lebanese christians and muslims.

Granted, it's not your "everyday" Lebanese... but the ones in power... including the government, military, et. al... have proven repeatedly that they are little more than shills for the governments of Syria and Iran--and as such, need to be dealt with as they were never going to do anything about Hezbollah.
