So the question now is how will the season end? Will the terrorists be finally defeated? Will they leave it hanging? All indications now are that this is truly the end except for a movie. I'm sad, but you can only milk so much out of a theme.

Losing LOST and 24 in one year is rough. Two of my few favorite shows. NBC was pretty stupid not to pick it up though, IMO. They kinda suck as it is and any successful show, even one that's in its later years, would be a boost for them. Oh well, life goes on. We have a movie to look forward to and I think it will be cool to see what can they can do without having to deal with real time. It was a genius idea, but is certainly a hindrance at times.

I don't think NBC declined it, it sounds like the cast and crew didn't want to do another season from the wording of the article.
The show's filming schedule was very tough and busy(several castmembers left over the years because it was so bad) and the real-time format made it all that much harder. A movie will give them much more freedom.

I had read that about NBC in another article a few days ago.

And then there's this:
http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2010/03/26/24-to-end-this-season-film-version-in-the-works/
So I'm not sure why it was passed by NBC, per the article in the post above this one.
Anyhow, bad filler or not, I'll definitely miss it. I wish they would give Jack Bauer a show with a regular format. It's the stupid filler that has killed 24, along with the 24 required episodes every season.
Fox confirmed Friday that after eight seasons, 24 will air its series finale on May 24. Star Kiefer Sutherland told EW.com that producing a ninth season for another network like NBC was not an option because he and executive producer Howard Gordon were ready to call it quits.

Written yesterday:
More news today about Fox's 24, which was officially canceled last week, including that upcoming feature film and whether NBC will be picking it up.
From USA Today:
Billy Ray (State of Play) is writing the movie script, which will be set in Prague and will take place in a single day, not in real time, allowing Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) to travel across Europe. That hasn't been OK'd officially.
20th Century Fox tried to pitch the show to NBC, but NBC wasn't interested.
The current eighth season has 10 more episode after tonight's and will provide a more "definitive" ending than others.
24 airs tonight at 9 p.m. ET/PT; the two-hour season finale will air May 24 at 8 p.m.

That was the most shocking and devastating ending to 24 I've seen in a long time(Teri's death maybe?)

Looking back it makes sense, the final episodes will be Logan trying to help revive the peace process with the Russians. I didn't make the connection at the time but if Hassan had lived, there would have been no need for Logan.

Re: 24 Season 8 Premiere!! Jan. 17th
Well since the last post in this thread this show has firing off all the cylinders as the final episode approaches, it's really going out with a bang. Jack has finally snapped and is on a personal crusade. Tonight's final 10 minutes was particularly grisly even for 24, and then the end, with the dead terrorist's phone connecting back to Logan, oh boy.
Taylor is in so deep I don't see how she comes out looking good in it.
Only three hours to go, the last half of the season has made me realize how much I'll miss this show. Ever since Hassan was murdered it's just been incredible.

LAST TWO HOURS TONIGHT! 24 will be no more on the small screen, though there is serious talk of a movie. How will it end? Jack has pretty much gone to the point of no return now

I'm really going to miss it too and I agree that it's been incredible lately. Occasional "flaws" and all, it has definitely been a favorite form of my entertainment for years! I love me some Jack Bauer.
I'm not sure if I'll be able to get to it tonight though. When I got home from my trip last night, I had too much to do and was far too tired to watch the LOST finale, so I'll be watching that tonight. 6 seasons of progress and I couldn't watch the finale when it aired! Ugh. lol. Well, I'm jealous of everyone who knows how everything turned out already, but at least I still get to enjoy hours of new LOST.
I've had to walk around and view things online with one eye open and even that one half shut, afraid I'll see something I shouldn't. heh

I have to say that the actor that plays President Logan is phenomenal! What a whacko!
I can't believe that President Taylor actually followed President Logan's advice. I guess she's human and has a breaking point too, considering everything she's gone through.
Jack in that costume and mask reminded me of Terminator - Logan's reaction was priceless.
I can't imagine what the finale is going to bring.

Well that was certainly interesting.
Logan fails at killing himself.
I was really getting irritated at the fact Taylor was facing no consequences for what she did, but she finally realized it at the very end.
Jack was as usual awesome, I mean attacking Pillar while on a gurney?
Jack and Chloe's final scene=touching. I guess she's the only person still alive that he's been close to all these years. That was sad.
Certainly left a lot of open plots for a movie.
and I loved the end, how it counted down to zero. It still hasn't hit me yet that the show is over forever
