EVERYONE is a wolf guarding a henhouse. All states act in their national interests. All organizations act in their organizational interests.

Russia has Big economic ties with Iran and their support against Sanctions continues. As mentioned before there is alot of time before the real threat arises from an actual nuclear attack. However the longer we wait the stronger their position seem to get and they could sell the technology like Korea to some real bad folks in the region.

Iran president writes a letter to President Bush. The question is if they are caving or it's just a delay tactic.

Israel can strike Iran to destroy their nuke plants alone without the help of the U.S.

Actually, it looks like Peres was just responding to Ahmadinejad's rhetoric.

There's no realistic way, short of nuclear strikes, that Israel could knock out Iran's nuclear program. They simply don't have the conventional capacity.

One note on Ahmadinejad's rhetoric ... it's interesting to note that the "Israel should be wiped off the map" statement (not a terribly accurate translation, but what he said was bad enough in any case) was in fact a direct quote of Ayatollah Khomeni back in the early 80's. What's interesting about that is that at the time Khomeni said this, Israel was in fact selling arms and military aircraft parts to Iran with tacit US approval, and they continued to do so well after that statement was made.

Just a little historical context to this brouhaha ...

If the above information is confirmed then it shows that Iran has been lying about the nuclear program that they say is for peaceful means to produce electricity.I dont trust them a bit.

Well, I wonder if the UN will play cat and mouse with them like they did with Saadam. Are inspectors allowed over there?

The UN fights diseases, clothes children, provides tents after disasters, feeds the hungry, and offers a place for nations to arbitrate their claims so as not to go to war. The UN does not always succeed because there is no UN and only the agreement of the united nations (think about that for a while). Nevertheless, the world is a better place for people holding back from force for a moment or two and trying to resolve their differences through dialogue.

What have you done for world peace and security today? The UN is housing thousands in Kashmir, is maintaining the security of East Timor, is arbitrating disputes for instance between Nigeria and Cameroon, is saving children from malaria, and trying to work for the containment of nuclear weaponry.

You say the UN is a sad place. I say that the UN employed individuals are composed mostly of dedicated people who believe that the world can become a better place. I say that the world is a sad place.

I do not understand why the US and world just stands by and allows countries all the time they need to do this stuff, then start to complain. Talking with these people is just a joke. Saadam, regardless of wmd's, still shunned his nose at the UN. The illegals are still coming over every day and all our jobs are being outsourced and all we do it watch and do nothing until it really gets bad. Then we say "what are we going to do?" I hope we don't do this with Iran too.

Mostly because the world is much more complicated than you allude to. Why can't you win a checkmate at chess on the second move? Because it's more complicated than that.

We are allowing Iran to enrich uranium right now because the types of actions we would need to take to immediately stop them are even less in our interest than letting them continue. We're doing our best to mitigate the situation by going to the security council.

Ok. This doesn't count as a valid argument. If we're agreed on that, then no comment from me either.
