Glad to hear it. I only hope whoever succeeds Bush is equally strident about supporting a nation surrounded by hostiles.

Now what the U.S do about this surprise move by Iran? Will they engage in one to one talks?

Iran test missile
Now in which Iran we believe? in the one that wants direct talks with the U.S or the one that test missiles and is on wargames?

There's nothing particularly new or disturbing about this. They first successfully tested the Shahab-3 six years ago. It appears they're now attempting to convert from liquid fuel to a solid booster.
I don't see that this posturing should affect our policy at all. The best route for the upcoming several years at least remains attempting diplomatic solution to our differences.

Does anyone have any news about Canada and this?
I am worried, because I am sandwiched between Detroit and Buffalo, and I got Cleveland to the south. Also, I live in the GTA/Golden Horseshoe so I would assume this locale is a prime target if anything... well... it was in the Cold War at least.

He's not a lunatic. He may be a bad person, he may be against our interests, he may in fact be a religious zealot, but to assume that he is a lunatic is very dangerous. Almost everyone can be negotiated with. Hitler could not because his goal wasn't regional power adjustment but the invasion and conquest of neighboring regions. What this Iranian fellow is doing is trying to gain the ability to deny the US and West the ability to remove the regime he is part of (he's NOT in control of the system as a tyrant, he's part of an oppressive system.) which we seem unwilling to accept.
However, to believe a global war will come of this, or that the Iranian military will destroy itself in order to destroy Israel, goes against thousands of years of interactions between states, and especially our experiences within the last sixty of those years.
MAD is in play with Israel, and not even that with us. If they attack the US they will not destroy us, and we will obliterate every habitable place in Iran within the day.

It looks like economic sanctions will be impossed against Iran. But will that measure work to make Iran get rid of the nuke program?

I give it like...zero probability. This is an exercise in futility.

Agreed. But why should they halt it? I wouldn't halt it if I were Ahmahdinejad. I'd be accelerating it.
Oh... I dunno, perhaps they should halt it because they're a terrorist state being run by another little "Hitler" who is denying the holocaust worldwide, and one of the finest purveyors of ethnic hatred on the globe???
Just a thought.

So assuming they are what you say they are, what motivation do they have to stop their nuclear program? Why should they stop it, from their point of view?

Or claim they stopped their program, then do it in secret, become "friends" with us and other countries, then stab them in their backs...if he is crazy...that would be a good "crazy" plan...or sell all the stuff they know so far behind everyones backs on the black market and let terrorists have the plans...(craziness either way...IMHO)
