I have to disagree here. They already have proof he had been trying to contact Al Queda directly recently and had actually basically made threats(veiled though they may have been). IIRC, some emails he sent had been intercepted and should have raised a GIANT HUGE red flag, but were glossed over(called CYA quick since you didn't act properly on the knowledge) including some to the Cleric that is now in Yemen who is a proven Al Queda operative who had contact with the 9/11 terrorists and our shooter. IMO, I would say that at a minimum he was encouraged, if not coached by some of his contacts outside the military community. He is being hailed as a hero by many in the Muslim countries overseas. Acted alone? I guess that depends on your definition and how broad you care to make it.

I consider lone wolf terrorists more dangerous because they operate independently. I suspect Hasan has ties to Al-Qaeda.

The "lone wolf" concept may be the new form of terrorism on US soil. The really bad part is that an officer pulled this off......a medical officer.....even worse. Someone we supposedly trusted when we came back to "the world". Your outside CONUS in a combat arena.....everyone is packing something. All this continuing info on this guy is blowing me away. How did we miss this???? Are our ranks so low in supply that we take anyone into military service?

Bring back the draft. If nothing else we got a lot of good trauma surgeons out of the deal.

Army psychiatrist Major Nidal Hasan was charged Thursday with 13 counts of premeditated murder in last week's Fort Hood mass shootings.

Hasan, 39, is suspected of killing 13 of his comrades Nov. 5 when he opened fire at a soldier processing center at the Army base in Killeen, Texas. He was charged in the military's legal system, making him eligible for the death penalty.

The Army Criminal Investigation Command formally announced the charges against Hasan at Fort Hood Wednesday afternoon.

"We are aggressively following every possible lead," said Chris Grey with the Army's Criminal Investigation Command, adding that additional charges are possible.

this is just so sad. I still am having a hard time wrapping my mind around this.
