I have the live feed on cbs.com and they just added sound and bells were tolling. But I haven't heard confirmation.

Reuters: Italian media reporting Pope John Paul II has died. CNN working to confirm.

Definitely a sad passing and a great leader to the catholic church.

CNN website says he's clinging to life.

I think the media jumped the gun. He's still alive, I think.

He is gone. The bells are tolling, the choirs are singing. He is gone.

It's one particular door, on the far right, of St. Peter's Basilica. I heard it on MSNBC and Fox while I was home at lunch. It's termed the "door of death" and, in symbolism, is closed when someone dies. However, they were also saying that the bells had not tolled and that no announcement had been made.

I haven't heard confirmation yet either, but like I said earlier, the bells were heard on the CBS.com live feed some 20 minutes or so after they mentioned the door on the other news sites.

I'm still not accepting it (grief-wise), but I will. We all grieve in different ways. As for accepting it news-wise, I'm fairly certain it's true.

The bronzed door. I had heard reports that it had been closed. I have my boss's tv on Fox, and I just heard the bells and the choirs. But Shepard Smith just said that there is a report that the Pope's brain and heart are still "working". So maybe he has not passed yet.

VATICAN CITY — Pope John Paul II (search) was in critical condition Friday, with the Vatican saying he was deteriorating again and new Italian television reports out that he'd lost consciousness just after the sun set in Rome.

THe doors at the Basilica are already closed at nighttime. You will only see that tomorrow during the day. I am sure we will find out through the media before the Vatican announces it the old fashion way.

They will close the shutters and ring the bells when he does die.

Alive as of now. Fox News for ahead of themselves.
