AMBRIDGE, Penn. (Court TV) - Clearly, Andre Ellis had moral misgivings about his bank heist from the very start.
When the 39-year-old man allegedly held up a bank in Ambridge, Penn., on Nov. 8, his note to the teller read: "Put the money on the counter. Sorry I did this. God forgive me. I need help. Thank you."
But twenty minutes after he left the bank with $1100 cash, the apologetic robber returned to make financial amends, according to police.
"He was polite and contrite," Ambridge Police Chief David Sabol said.
According to the chief, after the heist, the suspect walked to a coin-operated laundry a block away and watched as police cars raced past the location to the crime scene. Ellis reportedly experienced a change of heart — he realized that he had done a terrible thing and decided to give back the money.
The suspect walked back to the bank, but was unable to reenter the establishment, because banking industry protocol dictates that banks be locked down after a robbery. Ellis then banged on the windows and caught the attention of the very teller he had robbed. The woman alerted officers, who arrested Ellis without incident.
Ellis was charged with robbery. He is in the Beaver County Jail on $100,000 bond.
he should get a light sentence

Man Seeking Taxi Hops Into Police Car
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (AP) - A night of drinking left a man so disoriented that he hopped into a police patrol car thinking it was a taxi, police said.
The 20-year-old man was arrested on Saturday soon after he let himself into Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Deputy Esther Beckman's car while she was out of the vehicle questioning a bicyclist. The suspect's name was not available Tuesday.
Officers let the bicyclist go, but the man in search of a ride was taken to jail on suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol and cocaine.

Police Hit Man in Genitals With Taser
FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Police accidentally hit a naked man in the genitals with a Taser after he was caught breaking windows and asking women to touch him, authorities said.
Jeremy J. Miljour, 26, tried to run away when sheriff's deputies approached so one of them shot their Taser, said Cpl. Matt Chitwood. But one of the gun's prongs accidentally hit Miljour's genitals and got stuck, Chitwood said.
"The Taser is relatively accurate, but when someone is moving like that, it doesn't matter if you have a Taser, or a pistol. (Officers) can't aim," Chitwood said.
Miljour was treated at a hospital before being taken to the Lee County jail. He was charged with indecent exposure, resisting an officer and criminal damage.

Wash. Man Caught in Doghouse by Police Dog
MARYSVILLE, Wash. (AP) - A man being sought in a hit-and-run case was caught in a doghouse by — what else? — a police dog, authorities said.
"Now he's in our doghouse," police Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux said.
Lamoureux said parents began calling police about 7 a.m. Monday as a vehicle rammed numerous cars in a neighborhood while children were getting ready to board a school bus in this town about 30 miles north of Seattle.
The vehicle was gone when police arrived, but officers were summoned again after the vehicle crashed through a fence. A tracking dog led officers to a man in a doghouse and he was arrested and jailed, Lamoureux said.
Todd Aron Fowler, 35, was being held for investigation of hit-and-run driving, second-degree assault and a drug law violation with bail set at $15,000, according to the Snohomish County Jail's Web site.

Man Leads Police on Slow Lawnmower Chase
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Bad idea: fleeing from police in a stolen car. Terrible idea: fleeing in a stolen lawnmower. But that's what police say a "happy drunk" did, a decision that landed the suspect back in prison for violating his parole.
Police say they got a tip about a stolen riding lawnmower. When they investigated, they spotted a man driving across a cornfield near Springfield.
"I happened to be driving south when the call went out, and lo and behold, off to the west there was this man bouncing through the cornfield with his ponytail flopping in the breeze," said Kurt Taraba, a police officer in the suburb of Southern View.
Sangamon County Sheriff's Deputy Jim Tapscott said authorities set up a perimeter while he and another deputy drove into the field to talk to the lawnmower driver. They identified themselves and told him to stop, but he allegedly tried to drive off.
"I thought, 'You're on a riding mower, and we're in a car,'" Tapscott said with a laugh. "He was only going four or five miles per hour, so I got out and jogged alongside him."
The driver finally stopped when police threatened to stun him with a Taser.
Police arrested Charles H. Carter, 45, and returned him to the Illinois Department of Corrections. Carter was wearing an ankle monitor because he'd been on home confinement.
The Prisoner Review Board will decide whether he goes back on parole or remains in prison to serve the rest of his two-year sentence for theft.
Deputies have been unable to determine who owns the Craftsman mower. They said Carter had a handwritten bill of sale for it, but was unable to tell them where it was purchased or provide any other details.

Mom Allegedly Spikes Macaroni With Bleach
CORAOPOLIS, Pa. (AP) - A mother has been charged with trying to poison her adult daughter and her daughter's family after allegedly pouring bleach into their macaroni and cheese on Saturday night.
Nancy O'Donnell, 56, was charged with four counts each of aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person, police said.
O'Donnell's daughter, Victoria Lynn O'Donnell, 24, was preparing dinner around 6:30 p.m. for her live-in boyfriend, Jamal Scott, 30, and their 6-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter. The four share a home with Nancy O'Donnell.
Victoria O'Donnell went upstairs while the food was cooking, and police said that when she came back downstairs, she could smell bleach in the food. She tried the macaroni and cheese and immediately spit it out after tasting the bleach, police said.
No one else tasted the food.
Victoria O'Donnell then confronted her mother about the allegedly tainted dinner. According to court records, Nancy O'Donnell said she wanted to sicken her daughter because "you don't deserve those children."
Police reported a strong odor of bleach when they arrived to investigate. Nancy O'Donnell later denied pouring bleach into the pasta, police said.
Nancy O'Donnell is being held in the Allegheny County Jail on $25,000 bond. A judge ordered that she receive a mental health evaluation.

French 'Spider-Man' denies illegal drug possession
HOUSTON, Texas (Reuters) - A daredevil known as the "French Spider-Man," arrested for trying to climb a Houston office tower, said on Monday police mistook his anti-seizure medication for illegal drugs when they charged him with possession last week.
Alain Robert, 43, told Reuters he was arrested on November 22 with Urbanyl, a drug prescribed by his doctors to ward off epileptic seizures. During a court appearance on Tuesday, Robert's attorney will ask that the drug possession charge be dropped.
Robert said the media apparently tipped police that he was going to climb a 46-story building in downtown Houston. Police were guarding the tower when he arrived, but he ran toward the structure.
Officers pulled him off the building by his ankles.
Police charged Robert with criminal trespass and possession of narcotics. They said the drug was Xanax, an anti-anxiety drug that is prone to abuse in the United States.
Robert said he has a prescription for Urbanyl, which is generally known as Clobazam.
The daredevil, who has also scaled about 70 buildings including New York's Empire State Building and Chicago's Sears Tower, complained news of the drug charge has tainted his image, especially back home in France.
"It takes a long time to build a reputation and it doesn't take long to destroy it," Robert said. "Because one of those cops gave wrong information, it's a little unclear to the people."

Fugitive Who Asked 'What's Up?' Arrested
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A man who approached a plainclothes police officer was arrested after asking the officer "what's up?" Officer Patrick Hickey was checking license plates in an alley as part of a recent drug investigation when a man asked him "what's up?"
Hickey responded by asking the man "what's up?" The man asked Hickey the same question again, to which Hickey again replied "what's up?"
To that, the man said "I'll show you what's up" and went inside a nearby house and came out with a .38-caliber handgun, police said.
"The guy got a gun because I said 'What's up?' Unbelievable," Hickey said. "I had no idea he would want to shoot me for saying 'What's up?'"
Hickey said he showed the man his badge and pointed his gun at the man, who put down his gun.
The man, Stewart Jenkins, 33, was wanted in Michigan, where he was on parole for assault.
He will be arraigned Friday on drug and weapons charges.
A search of Jenkins found $700 and a small amount of suspected crack cocaine, police said. A search of his house turned up $8,000 and 15 grams of suspected crack.
Jenkins was being held in the Polk County jail on more than $130,000 bond.

Alleged bank robber has car troubles
RAYMORE, Mo. (AP) - A man who allegedly robbed a bank Thursday using a kitchen knife and a small cooler had trouble with his getaway, the FBI said, but still had not been found hours later.
FBI spokesman Jeff Lanza said a man wearing all black, including a black nylon stocking over his head and black cap, walked into the Allen Bank and Trust in Raymore at 4:55 p.m. Thursday and demanded money. Lanza said the man was carrying a knife and a small cooler that the robber said contained a bomb.
Lanza said that after the man helped himself to money in the tellers' drawers, he demanded car keys, making a special request that the vehicle be outfitted with keyless entry -- something no one in the bank had.
Instead, the man ended up with a Toyota Camry with a manual transmission, even though he apparently couldn't drive a stick shift, Lanza said. The man gave up, leaving the car in front of the bank before disappearing.
But Lanza said authorities aren't sure if the man left on foot or found another ride. When law enforcement arrived, the suspect couldn't be found.
Lanza described the suspect as a 5-foot-10 black man in his 20s.

Man Jailed for Skipping Out on Cab Fares
TOKYO, Japan (AP) - A Japanese man who skipped out on his cab fares after crisscrossing the country in a taxi won't be going anywhere soon.

GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (AP) - A man wearing only socks was arrested along a busy street after witnesses said he fired a gun at afternoon traffic.
Temperatures were in the 40s when the incident occurred Tuesday. Police said no witnesses were injured.
Glenn Higgs, 44, of Germantown, was charged with reckless endangerment, indecent exposure, firing a weapon in the city limits and public intoxication, authorities said.
"I couldn't believe it," said Eddie Cox, who was driving home from the bank when he saw the naked gunman in this Memphis suburb.
Cox called police, who arrested Higgs at the scene and found a revolver in a nearby yard.
Higgs was sent to a hospital for a foot injury sustained when he earlier jumped from the second story of his home, authorities said.

Cops: Teen Allegedly Shoots Peeper's Home
GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - A teenager is accused of firing a shotgun into the home of a peeping Tom he allegedly caught spying on his girlfriend.
Harrison County Sheriff George H. Payne Jr. said deputies responded Tuesday to complaints that 63-year-old Ervin Joseph Peterson was looking through neighborhood windows.
Peterson was arrested on a charge of voyeurism after a female caught him looking into her bedroom window, Payne said.
When deputies arrived to arrest Peterson, they learned the unidentified female's boyfriend had allegedly fired a shotgun at Peterson's property.
A witness to the shooting identified 18-year-old Raymond Frederick Ladnier III, who turned himself in at the Sheriff's Department's criminal investigation office later that night.
Ladnier lives on the same road as Peterson. Deputies found Ladnier's truck, unoccupied, near the Peterson home and recovered two shotguns, Payne said.
Ladnier, charged with aggravated assault, was jailed on a $5,000 bond.
Justice Court Judge Dianne Ladner denied bond for Peterson pending a court appearance. Peterson faces up to five years in prison if convicted of voyeurism.
The penalty for aggravated assault varies, based on circumstances and injuries. It ranges from up to a year in jail to a maximum of 20 years in prison.

Man fined for reading stuff to six-year-olds
STOCKHOLM, Sweden (Reuters) - A Swedish drama student was fined 2,400 crowns on Wednesday for reading pornographic stories to a group of six-year-olds as part of a theater project on children's sexuality.
A Stockholm court ruled that the stories the man had read out were deeply pornographic and completely inappropriate for the age group, newspaper Dagens Nyheter said on its Web site.
It said the stories were about children having oral sex with each other.
The man's lawyer told Swedish radio that he would appeal against the verdict as he had not meant the stories to be seen as pornographic and had not acted with intent.

Unlucky Bank Robber Pleads Guilty
WASHINGTON (AP) - The saga of a man who may be the city's unluckiest bank robber ended Thursday with a guilty plea.
Michael V. Donahoe got $2,000 from a teller at a downtown bank he robbed Oct. 14. But he didn't get far, because a witness followed him out of the bank and blocked the way when he tried to escape in a taxi.
It only got worse after that.
The teller had put a dye pack in with the stolen money. It exploded in front of the lunchtime crowd, including two FBI agents who happened to be eating nearby. They marched Donahoe back to the bank, careful not to get stained by the red ink all over his hands and clothes. Bank employees identified him as the robber.
In court Thursday, Donahoe, who prosecutors said had no weapon, also admitted robbing two other downtown banks in September, making off with about $4,800. Donahoe, 53, could get more than four years in prison when he is sentenced March 9.
