Thrift store worker finds $30,000 in old clothes

BEIJING, March 10 (Xinhuanet) -- A thrift store worker in Southern California says she didn't think twice about returning 30,000 U.S. dollars she found in donated clothing.

Barbarita Nunez was sorting clothes on Tuesday at the Veterans Thrift Store when she found a small box. Inside was an envelope of cash. Nunez said at first she thought the money was fake. But just in case, she gave it to her supervisor.

The money turned out to belong to a woman who had recently died. It was returned to her family, who gave Nunez a cash reward.

Nunez said she will send some of the reward to Mexico so her mother can have an eye operation and will use the rest to buy a digital camera.

Nice Story!! I really wish more people would do this when they find something that does not belong to them. NOT ONLY is it the right thing to do but stuff has a way of coming back on you and for me personally I get a wonderful feeling when I return the item(s) to the rightful owner.

I once found a purse sitting in a shopping cart in the Safeway Parking Lot and turned it into the Customer Service desk for the owner to pick up. I never bothered to look inside. I also got a woman in deep Kimchi when I noticed her car in the Target Parking Lot with her kids inside of it and the windows closed. Since I didn't have my cell phone, I reported it to the Customer Service desk who immediately called the Police and made an announcement to the Store. When I left the store she was trying to explain to Police why she left her kids in the car (a major no-no in Arizona).

What are the fines for that? I would HOPE they would be quite high. That is NOT something to play around with.

What impressed more about her honesty and good heart was the fact that she needed the money for her mom's surgery and didn't take it.

Every day we hear about so many bad things in the world and it's nice to hear about something good once in a while.

I agree Mary, That is the kind of story I like to hear. I heard this on the news last night , apparently the lady was in her 80's she had recently died, and She had been saving the money from babysitting jobs and house cleaning over the years. Her family had no idea about the money until the owner of the store contacted them. This renews my faith in humanity, hopefully there are many more individuals like this in the world. :D

I'm honest, but I'm not good.
