This was all over WDIV TV which is Local 4 News. This was their top story and I didn't know why until they said the person who died was from MI.

I had NO IDEA that they can jump out of the water.

Like Regit said, when it's your time, it's your time. What a freaky thing to have happen!

You guys don't remember, what was it, the day after Steve got killed? That the guy in the boat got stabbed by one that jumped out of the water?

:uarrow: I remember that; it was pretty freaky. He survived, though, by keeping the thing in, which would have saved Steve's life.

Freaky all I can say. The stingray that jumped on the woman also died. Must of been a suicidal stingray.

Actually, spotted eagle rays frequently leap from the water. I believe it's a mating or defensive behavior. They often leap when they escape from predators. I have seen one briefly jumping from the water in the Boca Raton Inlet. Marine traffic often startles the rays, leading to these encounters when the rays land in adjacent boats. Even the most cautious person can't avoid it in some cases. These incidents are unfortunate cases of poor timing.

Fortunately, the man involved in the 2006 Deerfield Beach incident is recovering.

I think it was 4 weeks afterwards.

Must of been a suicidal stingray.

The stingray was released after it killed the person. It got away with killing a human.

No, no. On the news this morning I saw them taking the Ray out of the boat and putting it on a coast guard boat to be taken inland for further examining. They think the woman hit her head on the rail of the boat after the ray landed on her. Not like the Ray was attacking her, it was just a freak accident.

Payback!!!! After all we do to other species.

No, I don't think so. As stated before, this seemed to be a really freak accident.
