Dole joins Chiquita and Simply Fresh Fruit, Inc. in recalling cantaloupe. Linked to an Ohio salmonella outbreak this week but sold through out the US.

*Note* I thought we had an archived health alert/food recall topic already but I couldn't find it. Feel free to keep this topic current, adding any food recall alerts S2K members hear about to alert the rest of us. Thanks!

Phew....Captain Crunch is a registered trademark of the Quaker Oats company.

I'd probably keep eating them even if they were Kelloggs. So delicious!

I usually buy the Keeble peanut butter cracker sandwiches for snacks at work. This week I bought the Lance Brand. I love peanut butter.

The front page of my Sunday Cincinnati Enquirer said not to eat anything with peanut butter in it right now. Just until they determine where this health alert/risk is coming from. It may have originated from peanut butter paste.

http://news.cincinnati.com/article/2009 ... /1055/NEWS

All I know is, I am not touching anything with PB in it right now! I have daily IBS-like symptoms. My gosh if I ever got food poisoning I've joked with that family, that would be it. Just say good-bye, I'd be so sick! Since I walk a very fine line everyday with the way I have to eat anyway....

So anyway, if anyone is watching this PB outbreak, the latest info is to avoid anything food product with PB in it.

Yeah, that would be the last thing you would need!!!

I saw that announcement from the FDA. Come to think of it, I also bought Nature's Valley Peanut Butter Granola bars.

Is it just my imagination or have there been more salmonella outbreaks the last few years?

6 people thought they were having a somewhat healthy peanut butter snack and are now dead. :(

Not your imagination! Remember the spinach scare?

And the other peanut butter recall, tomatoes, cantaloupe, etc.

It always takes me a long time to again eat whatever was recalled.

It wasn't actually the tomatoes. The culprit was eventually discovered to be some sort of pepper (cilantro?) that just happens to be paired with tomatoes in alot of recipies like salsas.

Tomatoes still can't shake that reputation though, which is unfortunate for the farmers growing them....

Yeah, I remember that. I was just mentioning recent recalls and tomatoes were one of them.

I still love and eat tomatoes!

A topic and food recall alert like this always reminds of a family in our area. Their home and yard isn't large (ranch style home, about 1/4 acre lot). They have a large garden, fruit trees, and a chicken coop. Yes, chickens. In suburbia. The can their own vegetables. The only thing missing is a cow for milk. LOL But I always think about this family. They are producing their own food. Not that a family could produce everything they eat and need to survive themselves, but maybe it's time we started gardening. And I mean, real gardening. My parents had a garden and they grew all sorts of vegetables. You hardly ever see a garden in anyone's yard.

Okay, back to health alerts and such.
