Tax Rebate Check to Come Early
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Treasury will start sending tax rebate checks to Americans next week, ahead of its previous schedule, and aims to pump $50 billion into the U.S. economy by the end of May, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said Thursday. "We will start a bit earlier. We're a little bit ahead of schedule, so we will start right on Monday with direct deposits," Paulson told Reuters in an interview. The checks had to wait until after the Internal Revenue Service processed the bulk of tax...

So will there be any change for folks like me who didn't have direct deposit? Or do I still have to wait until freakin' July?

Not that I approve of this whole stimulus idea, but hey, 600 bucks is 600 bucks.

On the bright side, mine is going straight to my savings account to act as part of my emergency fund, because after we close on our new house in June we'll be broke as heck.

I will get mine by direct deposit, so I guess I should start looking for it on Monday. I will be using mine to help my debt deficit-lol, and the rest goes in my savings.

It's going to help me pay for the gas I need to get to and from work. At least that won't increase my credit card debt. Also, some of it will go towards my annual gardening expenses that normally go on the credit card.

Does anyone find it downright scary that the Govt. is basically saying that the economy is tanking so badly that we are going to give taxpayers "free money" to "stimulate" the sagging economy. When was the last time that the Govt. did this?
Even in the last official recession this type of action was not necessary so what is different this time?
maybe I am too paranoid but when the Govt wants to give me something I get worried.

They did it in 2001. It didn't work then, and it won't work now.

The good news is that despite forecasts, we're still not actually in a recession. GDP grew again last quarter, though not by much.

Give them time. I'm sure the media will scare everyone into one before long.

For anyone that's interested: If you did an H&R block rapid refund, or another type of refund anticipation loan, you will get a paper check. The rebate will not go through the preparer.

Based on the original schedule, I would be getting mine in july. I knew that they were accelerating the direct deposits, but I hadn't heard that they were accelerating the paper checks.
