Pesky Armadillos

Tis the season for armadillos. They're tearing up my flowerbeds with their rooting for whatever they root for. Help! Is there anything out there besides a shotgun (which i can't do within the city limits) to deter these unwelcome critters?

They were in my lawn last week. Home Depot sells a chemical that screws on the end of a garden hose. Mole B Gone or some name like that. Also works on voles, gophers and armadillos. Supposed to have some kind of stinky chemical that burrowing animals find unpleasant. Just spray right on lawns and gardens.
I've actually seen the armadillo early in the morning when I'm going to my car. Cheeky little thing, most small animals run in fear, he just kind of watched me. Makes my front lawn look like someone took a shotgun and just blasted holes in it.

This thread reminds me of an old TV Commercial for Dime bars

Most of the armadillos I encounter are laying in the street. Recently, we had a raccoon that would come on our porch every night and eat the dog food. We tried to scare it away, but it would just look at you like, "Are you serious?"
It finally stopped coming. I'm guessing someone else got sick of it visiting their house as well.

I've never actually seen an armadillo before but they do seem to enjoy making a mess of some peoples gardens from what I've heard.

If you mulch with volcanic rocks for the grill, they will leave your flower beds alone. The sharp edges on the volcanic rocks hurts their tender nose and they will leave it alone.

I was wondering, would a dog be any use against an armadillo?

I think I've seen Andrew Zimmern, master of consuming unusual, exotic and treyf foods has eaten armadillo before in Oaxaca, IIRC.
Nowhere near as nasty as the slimy tree worms he ate in the Philippines.

My daughter scared it off last night. I'm sure it'll be back. I'll just send her out every night

Wow, you folks actually
see armadillos? I thought they were something ALDOT created to slow down morning traffic.

They don't slow down traffic in Texas.

If they did we'd be in constant gridlock.

You're not in constant gridlock? Perhaps I should move to Texas.
Even in Alabama we call armadillos Texas speed bumps.
