Our rates haven't gone up from last year. Our electric bills are actually much lower than this same time last year since we moved into an apartment while waiting for our house to be built.

Our electric cost is way down. We installed a new Goodman central HVAC system 2 years ago. Our electric bill has been slowly dropping ever since. We did make some adjustments. We no longer cool our Four Seasons sunroom. We also have the cooling set at 80F......which we find just fine when it's 94F outside.
If your on a central unit, you might check your ducting. You may be cooling your attic or crawl space caused by a seperation in the ducting.

Hi Dionne,
It's not only me. I just talked to a co-worker whose bill doubled. Fuel adjustment costs

In fact she said that her initial thought was that she had forgotten to pay her bill last month but knew that couldn't be right because she is set up for auto payment.

Hmmmmm.....we're on Entergy. We experienced surcharges for a year after Katrina. Now you've got me wondering? I suppose my next electric bill could be interesting.........

When did you last recieve your bill? Dawn and I just recieved ours yesterday. Last month's was a 'normal' bill. But to be honest, I was expecting the increase, just don't like it much lol.

Our last electric bill was 5/28/08......it was 78.83 which included a fuel adjustment surcharge of 7.54. I also noticed we're still paying for Katrina.....the storm surcharge was .44 cents.
So I checked our CenterPoint Energy (natural gas) bill dated 6/4/08.....it is 33.84. The gas cost adjustment in this bill was 21.83......we actually used 10.76. Our base amount is $.091/ccf while our adjustment is $1.364/ccf.
Surprise, surprise, surprise!

I hear ya, sunny. I got my Entergy bill a few days ago and almost posted about the fuel charge as well. My fuel charge went up $40 over the previous month and the entire bill went up $65 over the previous month. It usually gets higher in the summer months, but not that much in one month. I called them and they said I used close to the same KWH as the same time last year... it just costs a lot more this year. So my May bill is $375.19 for only a 1685 sq. ft. house. My house is on the market because I need a bigger house. I can only imagine what it will be then.

Kel, I recently dropped my land line, everyone calls me on my cell anyway. I jokingly told my sister I wanted to free up some money to pay my electricity bill which I was certain would skyrocket

You know, my electricity bills are a lot lower this year than they were last year at this time. I dont know why... I replaced all the lightbulbs in the house with the new energy efficient ones, maybe that is it? I always have someone home and I have the house set between 78-76 depending on what time of the day it is. My house is 1700 sq ft and this months bill was 240.00, and i have Cirro Energy...

We're really beginning to push solar energy in Barbados now. In the next few years I expect there will be many solar powered houses on the island. Far from having to pay an electricity bill, many of those houses' systems will be set up in such a way that income can be generated from the sale of excess electricity to the power company.
It's a real paradigm shift.

Our electric bill will be going up soon ,in July due to the stupid fuel charge fee bing increased by 14%. Lakeland Electric Officials made a deal for fuel when prices were cheap and the deal back fired on them so it ended up they were paying a price that was more than what they were charging the consumers here in Lakeland. So until that contract ends, we are stuck paying for the electric company's mistake. They needed mathematical genius on the payroll when they made that deal for fuel.
