(Tunica, MS-6/13/08) One person is dead and another fighting for his life at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis following a shooting Friday morning at a downtown Tunica apartment.
The shooting happened at around 12:30 a.m. at a house converted into apartments in the 1700 block of Marie Street.
Edie Manzarella, who lives in a unit at the front of the house, says a neighbor she only knows as "Skeeter" knocked on her door and told her he had been shot and his next door neighbor was dead.
Manzarella says she went to the back apartments, saw that another neighbor had been shot to death and called police.
The surviving victim was airlifted to the MED to be treated for at least three gunshot wounds in the chest.
Manzarella says Skeeter told her two men had knocked on his door and asked for a ride and shot him when he refused.
Manzarella and others living in the area say the downtown neighborhood is normally quiet and crime free. They are shocked by what happened.
"I don't know what happened or who it is. I hope they catch them. If they watch this and see me on TV, I hope you get caught.... I hope your conscience eats you up inside," said Manzarella.
Tunica Police have not released the names of the victims. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was also called to the scene.
He lived three houses down from me and it was total chaos all night. I've been so upset. I never heard any gunshots but I noticed around 12:30 AM the flashing lights going by. I'm a bit stunned to be honest. It's even more upsetting because I mean, you live in a nice house, in a nice neighborhood, in a small town and you feel safe. He lived in a large old house that had been converted into apartments though.
