WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former White House press secretary Tony Snow -- who once told reporters "I'm a very lucky guy" -- has died at the age of 53 after a second battle with cancer.

Snow, who had been undergoing chemotherapy treatments for a recurrence of the disease, left his White House job September 14, 2007, and joined CNN in April as a conservative commentator.

In parting comments to reporters at his final White House news conference, he said, "I feel great."

He also called the job "the most fun I've ever had."

Snow said he was leaving the White House position to make more money. His White House salary was $168,000.

"The White House is so deeply saddened by this loss," said his replacement, White House press secretary Dana Perino. "He was a great friend and colleague and a fantastic press secretary. And his dear family is in our thoughts and prayers."

(CNN)

Regardless of one's politics, and keeping this thread strictly non-political, Tony Snow served the U.S. President and American people, and cancer is a horrible way to die. Thoughts go out to his family.

Yep. He went to the Jon Steward Show in Comedy Central and talked about the disease. I didn't realize until now how severe he was inflicted with the disease. May he rest in peace.

Total lack of class. I visit blogs of the opposite political inclination, and when Ted Kennedy's cancer was announced, the one or two sickos who took joy in that were ripped harshly by the other posters.

From Paul's second letter to Timothy, written just before he was beheaded by the Romans. Read at Mass a couple of weeks back for the Feast Day of St. Peter and St. Paul.

For I am already being poured out like a libation, and the time of my departure is at hand.

I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith.

From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the Lord, the just judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but to all who have longed for his appearance.

I hope I am worthy to have this read at my funeral.

Exactly. Fair enough after a while, but about half an hour after the guys death is announced is classless in the extreme.

I'm saddened by his passing, because of several reasons - one, he was too young, but two, he's my exact age and three, he died of colon cancer (I'm a colon cancer survivor but my dad and aunt (his sister) died from the disease). It must have been very advanced. And caught too late. The poor man......

53 is just too young to leave this earth. RIP Mr. Snow.

I didn't know he was THAT sick, hadn't heard much from him in awhile.

2nd major Washington media figure to die in a month at a young age.

RIP Mr. Snow. I didn't realize that the disease was that advanced either.

Also Mary, didn't Tony Snow spend a portion of his early life in Cincinatti?

Tony was a partner on my drive to work here in Phoenix for a while as he had a show on KTAR for a while. I came to respect him for his views and especially for his ability to connect with the people he touched, including me. I rarely respond to talk show hosts with calls or emails, but did so several times on his morning program.

The loss feels personal because Tony Snow had a way of engaging those around him as another human being.

For those that wish to read it first hand from the bible it can be found at 2 Timothy 4:7.

Thanx for the reminder Ed.

He was born in Berea, KY but raised in Cincinnati. Here's a nice local article to honor him.

Given that the theme of that site is "UFOs, Conspiracy Theorists, Lunatic Fringe" I'm not sure how you infer a political inclination from this site.

Rest in peace, Tony. My prayers go out to his family.

Tony Snow is a true talent. I like hearing his voice on radio and television. I enjoyed his show, very relaxing. He can do his show on a whim and did it with great energy and enthuiasm. Tony Snow was like a blue supergiant star that can make everyone excited like a supernova. He was the supernova.

I am very sorry and saddened that he passed away so suddenly at the age of 53. My condolences to Tony Snow's family, relatives, and friends. You will be missed. :( RIP Robert Anthony Snow. You are in a much better and peaceful world free of pain and suffering.

I read that Fred Phelps and WBC plan to protest at Tony Snow's funeral. He had the galls to attack the four Boy Scouts who died in the tornado and even planned on protesting their funerals.
