I haven't seen them in years. Recently I have noticed them in the yard. I was weeding and hit a small bush at the base and out of the ground came a hundred. Any idea how to get rid of them? Will the fire ant bait work?

I wasn't sure what a bull ant was so i googled it. I found a site from the university of florida. If you scroll down they have a section on management.
Bull Ant ManagementDirect treatment of nesting sites is recommended because these sites harbor the brood, queen, and a bulk of the workers and winged reproductives, however, finding the nest sites can be difficult. A small amount of insecticidal dust or spray applied directly to the nest area is usually successful. Excessive treatment can become repellent, actually causing the nest to move to another location if the dust or spray is applied near-to but not directly on the nest.

Thanks. I guess it shouldn't be a problem since I certainly found the nest.

I've dusted around the nest and on top of it. Maybe all I did was repell them because my neighboor and I used to swap the ant. Finally, we treated our lawns at the same time and they are gone. I have used a full lawn treatment sucessfully, but that took some time. One treatement every three months for a year.

I didn't think of suggesting the full lawn treatment. I have that done twice a year. I used to have fireants and since i started with the full lawn treatment i haven't had one since. It costs me $170/year to treat the entire yard.
