Family Reunions

#1 Postby hunter84 » Tue Aug 12, 2003 9:39 pm

My wifes family is having a family reunion this weekend, so I'll be going too. Which makes me wonder. do any of your families ever have reunions and how often do they.
My family hasn't had one in atleast 20 years, yet most of us live within 20 miles of each other but don't get together very much. My wifes family mostly lives all in one small town and they see each other almost daily yet they still have a reunion almost every year. Talk about opposites there. It'll be fun though I like most everyone in her family.

That's cool Hunter, I attended one last weekend and wrote about it. Guess that thread got buried already. My mother's and father's sides of the family both have been having them for at least 40 years. Thats as far back as my memory goes. My immediate family has been having one for about the last 15 years. They are always worth going to.

We have one at least once a year. They used to be alot more fun though. we used to pick a theme for the weekend, such as a prehistoric theme, where everyone dressed up as cave people. There was even a 30' dinosaur built. Strangest thing happened to that, we woke up one morning and the darned thing was gone. After about two hours of searching the area for it, it was located, a mile down the road, resting in the local golf course, where it had scared the he!! out of the groundskeeper in the early morning fog with its two red blinking eyes with it's head peeking over the fog....lots of laughs there. We have also had a hawaiian theme, mexican theme, and many others I can't remember right now. Other than that, our family is so large we have at least one wedding a year, and this weekend is that time again, Party...party....Party

That would have been great to see (the dino). It just so happens the camp ground we will be taking over this weekend is having a 50's theme weekend so every one is encouraged to dress in that manner. My family except myself have made poodle skirts to wears.
Enjoy the wedding this weekend Blizzard

My wife's family has a reunion every year. My family only sees each other if we are dragged to the same place kicking and screaming.

My husband's family has been having 3 or 4 day reunions for over 13 years now. 6 families plus his Dad travel to a KY State Park usually. We stay in cabins but a few prefer the lodge. This past year we tried a private, family orientated resort. It was our best one yet, since we didn't have to drive anywhere all weekend. Kids had sleepovers in the cabins. It was so much fun! I'd recommend this type of reunion over a day long one. It's nice to really spend time like this together.

My own family is very small so no reunions there. I've thought about it but weekend reunions work best when there are common interests (boating, golfing, etc.). My family isn't quite like that! My one brother would be golfing all alone......my mom wouldn't be up for much, she's slowing down now. To think about it, is almost too much to work out. My girls agree - let's stick to Dad's side of the family Mom! Might be b/c they have 14 cousins on that side.....LOL
