I'm sure that record will be broken several times over the next few days, as there's not only Fay approaching Florida to contend with but also newly formed 94L to its east which is looking more organized by the hour.
Already I've noticed a deterioration in S2K's server performance (I'm on dial-up so others may not have noticed this). Hope we can handle 1000+ simultaneous users.

Re: New record!
It's interesting to note that the old record was set almost exactly one year ago.

That's a feature that you can control on the User Control Panel, under Board preferences and then Edit display options

Yes but is there a way for Admins to override this user preference and set "Display Avatars" to "No" for everyone?senorpepr wrote:artist wrote:I wonder if they turned off the avatars if it would help.

We've been doing some tuning as we go. The site has been running quite well for me today - an occasional slight slowdown (say 10 to 12 seconds to load the page) when we get a rush of new visitors, but otherwise page loads are only a few seconds.

As I said in the other thread this is at least the busiest day in terms of posts since Wilma, indeed it may well be one of the buisest days ever in storm2k's history, I think maybe only Katrina can compare with posts.
Just for comprasion, Dean recorded a peak of 2500 posts over a 24hr period...we just beat that with just over 3 busy hours to go

Yeah funny too because it was almost on the same exact day last year. Old record was on Aug. 17th with Dean.
I was watching yesterday thinking we were going to break the old record on the exact day, but we are a day late.

Kinda strange Fay is ahead of the likes of Ivan, Wilma and Frances. I guess it's because there's more members now then there was then. And Katrina is not on that list? O_o

Should be noted that IF Ivan happened today we'd likely have a 1000 page thread, people laughed at me when i said that was possible before but a moderate TS that didnt upgraded till the Caribbean made it to 600 pages, a cat-5 with a real threat to man Carribean islands and also the USA would do the job!

Fay's thread has so many pages cuz she's been around forever! Or at least it seems like it! There were a lot of posts by different posters basically saying the same thing. It resembles the chatroom the way the discussion has gone. Another difference with the old threads, there seems to have been a minimum of 3 radar pics per page in the fay thread. Recon stuff was put in the discussion thread and also the recon thread so there was double posting there. Add all that up, no wonder the thread is so long!
