My secret source in Deutschland informs me that Oktoberfest is mere hours away. Bier, busen and dirndls!

Edit to change hot link. The BerlinStrassen page was rather hostile about it.

It would take at least that amount to start thinking these girls are somewhat attractive.

I like beer.

Beer may have been what motivated man from being hunter-gatherers to being settled and agricultural. I read it on the interweb.

...and I'll be in country for at least half of the festivities. (I doubt I'll make it this year to the München festivities, but there will be local events.)

Not today. Next weekend. Of course, by the time prime drinking time hits Texas, it is already early morning in Germany.

The good news, the Texan's of German ancestry in New Braunfels don't celebrate their version of Oktoberfest, Wurstfest, until November, when the weather has chilled to levels more typical of early October in Bavaria.

That´means last orders at 10 : 30 pm, gates close one hour later and folks have to return home...somehow.

Enough time to get sober and start over at 9 am next morning

Ed, I'm so glad that you mentioned Wurstfest! I used to refer to it as Bestfest! If I wasn't already going on a cruise to Aruba in December, I would be making vacation plans to attend the festivities! Your mentioning that really brought back some uber-fond memories and I thank you for that! Looks like a plan for next year for sure! 8-) Maybe I'd even see you there, that would be awesome! :D

I ran a hunter/jumper(horses) facility just outside of San Antonio at the old Retama Polo Center, I think that it's now the Verizon Ampitheater, and I used to look forward to Wurstfest all year long!! There's not much more funny of a sight than a bunch of drunken kickers all jumping up to do the chicken dance!! The only tough part of attending was deciding who was who was going to be the designated driver!

If you go to Wurstfest this year, please throw back a lager for me! And ENJOY yourself in a major way! :D

Thanks,
~Nikki~

Myron Floren playing the accordion on the Lawrence Welk show

BTW, Welk was American born. He has an accent because he grew up in a German speaking town in the Dakotas.
