Are you a Lost fan as well?

I'm asking because I have so many, many shows to watch now that premieres will have started. I can't imagine finding another hour to watch a new show. But I hear Fringe is as good as Lost is. Just want to know if that is true or not......thanks!

Big Bang Theory is off to a great start. Last night's episode was classic, classic stuff! Once again, Sheldon's quotes, quips, facial expressions absolutely stole the show! How I Met Your Mother, great as always (loved all the Star Wars comments....LOL) and Two and a Half Men - funny, as always too. The CBS Monday night sitcom vets are off to a good start.

Tried to get into Worst Week but I had a phone call. Hubby said it was funny. They've tried so many short lived sitcoms to fill that 4th 30 min. two hour block, so it's hard to say if this new show will last or not. I think they should have given the timeslot to Christine....but oh well, I'm not a network exec....LOL

Ratings: ABC Sees 'Stars' Monday
CBS gets a demo win; so-so start for 'Heroes'

September 23, 2008

Fast National ratings for Monday, Sept. 22, 2008

ABC got out of the blocks fastest on the first official night of the 2008-09 season, riding the premiere of "Dancing with the Stars" to a ratings win.

The return of "Heroes" to NBC after a nine-month layoff wasn't as impressive, drawing an audience no bigger than when it left the airwaves last December.

ABC led the night with a 10.9 rating/17 share, drawing about 4 million more viewers than second-place CBS, 8.2/13. NBC came in third with a 5.2/8. FOX, 3.7/5, was fourth, and The CW trailed with a 2.2/3.

CBS managed to capture the top spot among adults 18-49, drawing a 4.5 rating in the advertisers' favorite demographic. ABC, 4.3, finished a close second, followed by NBC at 4.1. FOX averaged 2.4 and The CW 1.5.

"Dancing with the Stars" opened its seventh cycle with a 13.2/20 at 8 p.m., dominating the hour. CBS finished a distant second with the season premieres of "The Big Bang Theory," 5.7/9, and "How I Met Your Mother," 5.9/9. A "Heroes" special/clip show drew a 3.8/6 for NBC, narrowly beating "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" on FOX (the two networks tied in households, but NBC had a slight lead in total viewers). "Gossip Girl" drew a 2.2/3 for The CW.

ABC held the lead at 9 p.m. as "Dancing with the Stars" rose slightly to 13.5/20. CBS got a 9.1/13 from "Two and a Half Men," followed by the series premiere of "Worst Week" (6.8/10), which held onto a little more 70 percent of its lead-in audience. "Heroes" scored a 6.1/9 for NBC. "Prison Break," 3.6/5, kept FOX in fourth, ahead of "One Tree Hill" on The CW.

The season premiere of "CSI: Miami," 11.0/18, put CBS on top at 10 p.m. ABC's "Boston Legal," 6.1/10, took second in households, but the second hour of "Heroes," 5.6/9, had a few more viewers.

-Yesterday’s Winners:
Dancing With the Stars (ABC), Two and a Half Men (CBS), CSI: Miami (CBS)

-Honorable Mention:
The Big Bang Theory (CBS), How I Met Your Mother (CBS)

-Disappointing:
Heroes (NBC)

-Yesterday’s Losers:
Heroes Clips Show (NBC), Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (Fox), Prison Break (Fox), Worst Week (CBS), Boston Legal (ABC)

The two-hour season-premiere of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars opened on a very dominant note, with 21.12 million viewers and a 5.3 rating/13 share among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown:

Dancing With the Stars (ABC)
8:00 p.m. - Viewers: 20.11 million (#1), A18-49: 4.8/13 (#1)
8:30 p.m. - Viewers: 22.01 million (#1), A18-49: 5.5/14 (#1)
9:00 p.m. - Viewers: 21.26 million (#1), A18-49: 5.3/12 (#1t)
9:30 p.m. - Viewers: 21.10 million (#1), A18-49: 5.5/12 (#1)

The year-ago 90-minute season-opener of Dancing With the Stars scored a very similar 21.25 million viewers and a 5.8/15 among adults 18-49 on Sept. 24, 2007.

Dancing With the Stars led into the season-premiere of relocated Boston Legal, which squandered the hefty support with a last-place 9.41 million viewers and a 2.4/ 6 among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m. Comparably, retention out of the last half-hour of Dancing With the Stars was just 45 percent in total viewers and 44 percent in the demo. ABC was smart to announce this as Boston Legal’s final season.

CBS featured four season-premieres last night -- The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men and CSI: Miami -- plus the series-debut of Worst Week. Here are the opening results results:

8:00 p.m. The Big Bang Theory – Viewers: 9.36 million (#2), A18-49: 3.6/10 (#2)
8:30 p.m. How I Met Your Mother – Viewers: 9.74 million (#2), A18-49: 4.0/10 (#2)
9:00 p.m. Two and a Half Men – Viewers: 14.93 million (#2), A18-49: 5.3/12 (#1t)
9:30 p.m. Worst Week – Viewers: 11.04 million (#2), 18-49: 3.8/ 9 (#3)
10:00 p.m. CSI: Miami – Viewers: 16.87 million (#1), A18-49: 5.1/13 (#1)

The returning series were all above year-ago opening levels, but Worst Week dipped by 1.19 million viewers and 16 percent among adults 18-49 from former occupant Rules on Engagement (Viewers: 12.23 million; A18-49: 4.5/10 on Sept. 24, 2007). And the retention out of Two and a Half Men was disappointing at just 74 percent in viewers and 72 percent in the demo. Not a good start. As for The Big Bang Theory, Emmy really needs to take notice of Jim Parsons this season.

The return of Heroes on NBC, meanwhile. was a big disappointment last night. The one-hour clips show was third in the 8 p.m. hour, with 5.96 million viewers and a 2.6/ 7 in the demo. That led into the two-hour season three premiere at just 9.89 million viewers and a 4.9/12 among adults 18-49 from 9-11 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown:

Heroes (NBC)
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 10.15 million (#3), A18-49: 4.8/11 (#3)
9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 10.28 million (#3), A18-49: 5.0/11 (#2)
10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 9.61 million (#3), A18-49: 4.9/12 (#2)
10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 9.52 million (#2), A18-49: 4.8/12 (#2)

One year earlier, Heroes kicked-off the season (on Sept. 24, 2007) with a much heftier 16.97 million viewers and a 7.3/17 among adults 18-49 from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, that’s erosion of a massive 7.08 million viewers and 33 percent in the demo. In other words, absence may not have made the heart grow fonder for fans of Heroes.

Opposite all original competition, Fox’s combination of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (Viewers: #4, 5.81 million; A18-49: #4, 2.2/ 6) and Prison Break (Viewers: #4, 5.93 million; A18-49: #4, 2.5/ 6) could not compete. One year earlier, Prison Break at 8 p.m. was considerably stronger at 7.41 million viewers and a 3.1/ 8 in the demo.

So far, the only ones we watch with a sense of "need" are Prison Break and A and E's The Cleaner.

We'll see what happens as the season progresses and we make time for a few more "regulars."

CBS wins the night, but FOX is the demo king

September 24, 2008

A solid opening for "The Mentalist" helped CBS capture Tuesday's overall ratings title, but FOX kept its hold on the 18-49 demographic.

CBS averaged a 9.5 rating/15 share in primetime, narrowly beating ABC's 9.2/14. FOX came in third with a 6.7/10. NBC's 5.2/8 was good for fourth, and The CW trailed with a 1.7/3.

ABC took over at 9 p.m. with "Dancing with the Stars," 11.5/17. The premiere of "The Mentalist" drew a 9.9/15 for CBS, retaining better than 85 percent of its lead-in audience. "Fringe" posted a 6.0/9, keeping FOX in front of NBC and "The Biggest Loser," 4.9/7. "Privileged" closed out the evening for The CW.

"Dancing with the Stars" improved to 11.9/19 at 10 p.m. The season premiere of "Without a Trace," 7.8/12, on CBS, topped NBC's "Law & Order: SVU" opener, 6.3/10.

-Down But Far From Out:
House (Fox)

Without a Trace (CBS)

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (NBC)

I wanted to watch the Mentalist last night, but my DVR insisted on taping Fringe on both tuners last night (Hence why I figuratively shot my cable box in chat last night). . . So, it will be on Friday, I have set to tape then.. .

Alert!

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Bush plans to talk to Americans directly about the financial crisis in a prime-time, televised address Wednesday night.

The White House says his speech at 9:01 p.m. EDT will be between 12 and 14 minutes long and will be delivered from the State Floor of the White House residence

Probably push everything beyond 9pm back about 15 minutes.

I thought that Opportunity Knocks was just "ok". It won't be a big hit.

I'm watching The Office, MNIE, Angry Planet (A Canadian extreme weather program), and a few other small ones.

I tried, but thankfully had a phone call (daughter from college calling)......it reminded me of those in-law movies. I half expected a cameo from Ben Stiller. LOL Last scene I saw was the diaper made from a garbage bag.

It's saved on our DVR, as my husband keeps saying. If I want to finish it.

Eh, I may or may not.

I'm still annoyed they didn't give this timeslot to Christine! Now there's a show you would stay tuned for to round out the 2 hour sitcom block.

We watched the new show after Christine last night - Gary, unmarried - yawn. Sorry, but that one isn't going to do it for me either.....

There seems to be a slew of shows that premiere in cushy timeslots that are very subpar (not what fans are used to, to compare to How I Met Your Mother, or Two and a Half Men, etc. or the excellent show titled Big, Bang Theory.....).

And then shows such as Studio 60 didn't even have a chance.......what a shame.

Yes I know we were talking sitcoms......but I still miss my S60 and Matthew Perry.....

Ratings: 'CSI: NY' Scores for CBS Wednesday
Eye's comedies, 'Knight Rider' don't fare so well

September 25, 2008

Fast National ratings for Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008

CBS' pair of crime dramas carried the network to a ratings victory Wednesday, even though the debut of its new comedy block didn't fare especially well.

For the night, CBS averaged a 7.9 rating/13 share, beating out ABC's 6.7/11 for the lead. NBC took third with a 5.1/8. FOX, 4.3/7, came in fourth, and The CW trailed with a 2.1/3. (Numbers for each of the Big Four networks may change some because of a live presidential address at 9 p.m. ET.)

CBS also led the adults 18-49 demographic with a 3.5 rating. ABC took second with a 2.9. NBC, 2.5, finished third, followed by FOX, 2.3, and The CW, 1.6.

The "Dancing with the Stars" results show ruled the 8 p.m. hour for ABC with a 10.3/17. FOX's "Bones" came in second. The premiere of "Knight Rider" managed only a 4.5/7 for NBC, though that was good enough to edge out "The New Adventures of Old Christine," 4.4/7, and the debut of "Gary Unmarried," 4.5/7, on CBS. "America's Next Top Model" drew a 2.7/4 for The CW.

All four major networks aired President Bush's address from 9 to about 9:15 p.m. After that, the "Criminal Minds" season premiere scored a 9.4/14 to move CBS into the lead. NBC moved up to second with "America's Got Talent," 6.5/10. ABC's special "David Blaine: Dive of Death" drew a 5.6/9, topping the 2.7/4 for "'Til Death" and "Do Not Disturb" on FOX. The CW aired a repeat of Tuesday's "90210."

The "CSI: NY" season premiere posted a 9.8/16 for CBS at 10 p.m. The David Blaine special on ABC and the "Lipstick Jungle" season premiere on NBC each drew a 4.3/7, with ABC grabbing a few more total viewers.

-Yesterday’s Winners:
Dancing With the Stars (ABC), Criminal Minds (CBS), CSI: NY (CBS)

-Honorable Mention:
Bones (Fox), America’s Got Talent (NBC)

-Yesterday’s Losers (excluding repeats):
The New Adventures of Old Christine (CBS), Gary Unmarried (CBS), Knight Rider (NBC), David Blaine: Dive or Death (ABC), Til’ Death (Fox), Do Not Disturb (Fox), Lipstick Jungle (NBC)

Our DVR and 2 VCR's are working overtime tonight....LOL

But I am recording shows for a coworker, who only has one VCR.

It's just a darn good thing I kept those old VCR's, we usually just use them as tuners......but in times such as these, they come in quite handy!
